Funny how you never see them protesting at any of the celebrity gay weddings.
They have trash talked some dead celebs, but also notice how they've never shown up at soldiers' funerals in Harlem, Newark, Detroit, East LA, or, let's get real here, any neighborhood that has an MLK Blvd. running throught it? Cowardice? Or are they the tools of the DNC and/or the NAACP(Fred Phelps is a member) One of those things that make you go HMMMM

“It’s a pretty inbred group. “

Yeah, and from what I’ve see of Fred’s daughters, you’d need to be really drunk to want to marry any of them.

According to this:

Investigators say state District Judge Tom Greenwell was hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt when he shot and killed himself in his chambers at the Nueces County Courthouse.

Sheriff Jim Kaelin said financial documents found in Greenwell's chambers that he had exhausted the spending limits on five credit cards and had taken out loans. The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports investigators are awaiting court approval before delving deeper into Greenwell's finances.

Kaelin says Greenwell, who killed himself Monday, didn't live lavishly on his salary of at least $140,000 a year and that his property can't account for the size of the judge's debts. Now, investigators are looking to rule out such malign influences as extortion and blackmail.

Don’t these people need to repair the roof on their disgusting excuse for a church, or pay the pension of the senile old coot who used to run it? Where do they get the money to go around the country protesting funerals? Are they fabulously wealthy, insane, or both?

That story about the judge is dark and complicated - and much more interesting that the activities of that nutty “church”.

They’ll protest a kid’s funeral for his goldfish. Why are they even in the news anymore?

I think the Westboro crowd are just paid hacks by some liberal group to make Christians look like terrorists or something.

Texas has a law against this type of disruption/protest... Double check the exact details but the protest can’t be within six hours of the ceremony and can’t be held at the same site.

They keep threatening to protest a lot of places but it seems those are empty threats these days.

Westboro rarely shows up for anything but the media just loves them.

More than just a bunch of wackos. Fred Phelps was a friend of Al Gore. He even hosted a fund raiser for Gore during his 1988 run for the presidency. It's like Bill Ayers holding Obama's first fundraiser ever at his house.

Phelps, a long time “Democrat” and supporter of “civil rights” for blacks (presumably only straight blacks or perhaps just because he saw a gold mine and lots of $$ in that type of litigation at the time), did support Al Gore but that was back when TN Senator Gore had opposed a "gay bill of rights" and stated that homosexuality was not something that "society should affirm"), a position that he (Gore) had changed by 2000 when he had the support of homosexual advocacy groups for his presidential campaign. Phelps has stated that he supported Gore because of these earlier comments.

But the entire Westboro congregation picketed a 1997 inaugural ball denouncing Vice President Al Gore as a "famous fag pimp”. In 1998, Westboro picketed the funeral of Gore's father, screaming vulgarities at Gore and telling him, "your dad's in Hell".

The Westboro cult first came into the national spotlight in 1998, when it was featured on CNN for picketing the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a young man from Laramie, Wyoming who was beaten to death by two men “allegedly” because of his homosexuality and protested performances of the Laramie Project play around the country. They later extended their “protests” to military funerals the “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and protests of celebrity funerals, protests of the victims of natural disasters, tornados, etc., protests of the funerals of accident victims, protests of things like the Swedish embassy and protests in front of numerous Christian churches.

The Westboro clan is IMO a cult obsessed with only one issue and one issue alone and they are complete wackos and attention whores and hope to spear violence against them so they can file civil lawsuits in order to make money to further fund their activities.

While they used to actually show up in mass to protest at military funerals and other funerals or anything and everything that they could in their own twisted mind vaguely attribute to homosexuality even if it had nothing to do with homosexuality at all or any of their other peeves like Catholicism, Judaism, rock concerts, plays, churches, basically against anyone that they perceive as not prescribing to their cult’s beliefs, now days, probably because of the counter protests and local laws against picketing private funerals or their lack of funds for travel or people just plain ignoring them, they typically make a threat to protest but actually don’t show up much now days. But they don’t have to show up as now they can “twitter” their protests and threats, but they still get what they want – attention, their name in the press and hits to their vile twisted and hateful website.

My nice and I attended this local funeral here in PA in order to shield this good Christian family who tragically lost six of their children in a fire from the Westboro cult who made threats to protest. But while the Westboro freaks didn’t show up, we were glad we went.

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/03/perry_county_residents_were_re.html

But if anything good came and comes from this cult’s threats, it is that it often brings a community of good and right minded people of many POV together to stand up to these hateful twisted wacko’s and support grieving families.

Don’t bleed into the shark pool.

These publicity whores thrive on any type of exposure when in fact they deserve the obscurity of being ignored.

or if they do, it’s only one of them. They are irrelevant now. the media keeps them around by giving them free advertisement.

The Westboro freaks seldom if ever make an appearance any more because they know their efforts will be countered by members of the Patriot Guard Riders who show at funerals and other events with regularity. And the Westboro crowd do not want that confrontation as they are cowards.

They do get free promotion from the state run American media but only because that media promotes them as being right-wing, which they clearly are not.

I and others PGR members watch their website for announced protests and they say they are going to them all. But the never show. They have been reduced to idle threats online and that is a good thing.
