Suppose leftists starting saying that conservative radio and TV talk shows were spouting hate speech, they they find what conservatives say to be offensive.
RED will be shamed for being the color of spilled blood and distraught school children everywhere.
Best new name I heard was on Dennis Miller where a caller suggested the sorta anagram “Washington Red Inks”....
I too find their name offensive. Maybe they should change it to the Virginia Redskins.
The next thing you are going to tell me is that they are going to outlaw Scalping tickets to the games.
Red Inks is just as good (if not better) than what the DC Council is proposing...
D.C. Council may push Washington Redskins into Washington Redtails
In his resolution, Grosso urges the team to change its name to the Washington Redtails, noting that that was the nickname used by the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering aviation unit that broke the color barrier for U.S. military pilots in World War II. A plane used by the airmen recently was put in a place of honor in the Smithsonian. Grosso said a change to the Redtails would be a relatively seamless. You can still sing the song and everything, said Grosso, before singing, Hail . . . to the . . . Redtails.
They considered moving north to Laurel, MD. Move them next door to Laurel, put them in Savage, Maryland, and keep the "Redskins" name.

As a person of Irish ancestry, I have just now decided that I’m highly offended that the University of Notre Dame calls it’s football team the “Fighting Irish.” Not just “Irish”, mind you, but “FIGHTING Irish.” How offensive to my people! I want reparations! I also think that those of you of Scandinavian ancestry should protest the name “Minnesota Vikings.” Then there’s the Boston Celtics.....
Savage Redskins....Gotta love it.
i am a St John’s alum....went through college on a track scholarship....when i was there we were the St John’s Redman and our mascot was an indian in full headress; great track team, good Div II football team and an even better basketball team (final four in 1985, Big East battles w/Patrick Ewing and Georgetown)...
they became politically correct after i left and changed their name to the Red Storm around 1990; since then the once vaunted basketball team has been garbage and the mens track program and football team were dropped due to the discriminatory practice of title 9...
Samething happened at Marquette University in Milwaukee Wi. They were the Warriors. Mascot was a characterized indian known as Willie Wampum.
Then some squaw got her undies in a knot and willie was replaced with the “first warrior” a kid in a indian costume like you’d see at any cheap tourist roadside indian store.
But that wasn’t enough for the undie knotted squaws. So soon the team became the “gold” and then shortly thereafter (because teh powers that be FINALLY figured out that calling a team a color was pretty lame) they became the flapping turkeys (or golden eagles or some other such thing that has no connection to university history at all).
I’ve not followed them nor supported them since. Whenever I get fundraising calls I always ask when they are changing the name back to “Warriors”. They give me some mealy mouthed excuse and I tell them to call back when the university returns to being the proud place it once was.
The local college in my hometown had been fielding teams called the Chiefs for half a century. Then, in an orgy of PC self-flagellation, they renamed their teams “Mustangs.”
Every year I get a call from a polite young volunteer on the endowment panel asking if I’d like to make a donation. I — politely — reply that I cannot in good conscience contribute to an institution that so cravenly succumbed to the fashion of the times, but that I would gladly contribute when they change their name back.
The irony is, sports teams compete, or “battle” each other for the “win”, so using Indian related names seem to be a testament and respect shown to Indians as being fierce and respected warriors.
Stereotype? Maybe, but those same liberals say that all Southerners are “racists”.
What are these nanny “bloombergers” trying to do? Push major league sports into no longer keeping score, like they have for sports in schools?
Actually, it smells more like they seek the “lawsuit lottery”, as everyone knows big league sports is big business. This is a bloomburger shakedown cruise, and nothing else.
It’s whie liberals yelling “racism”, again. Seems to me they have “no standing”, whatsoever.
The leagues need to just give them the finger, and say FU. Don’t let that camels nose get into the tent.
Time has come to stand up to those who couldn’t make the team, and run off to cry to mommy.
Colors- Red banned- Not on your life. it will be the color of OUR FLAG
If the NFL would stop using the shotgun formation and throwing long bombs and insist on saying quarterbacks have rifles for arms maybe their players wouldn’t be arrested for murder.
Only if Paul Brown’s name was Paul White.
Good one, John. And Marquette hasn’t done squat since changing to Flapping Turkeys, Barking Seals, Braying Dogs, or whatever it is. I used to live and die by them as a kid when Al McGuire coached there. No more. Same with the Stanford Indians and all their name changes.
