The water was there the whole time. It did not shrink with the land mass as the land mass was caused to shrink in the first phase, because, as we all know, water cannot be compressed.

Now, when the land mass was re-expanded, then the waters simply receded to lower levels, as we find them today.

This is getting to be fun.

Makes perfect sense. I hear there’s an opening at the ICR - of course it’s just an intern slot, there’ not going to pay you or anything - but I think with your profound intellect and sparkling wit, you’ll move up to Second Assistant Deputy Night Manager (Weeks, Holidays, and On-call) in no time...

Surface water covers 71% of the Planet Earth.

If you took all the surface water and sucked it all up into a ball, it would look like this.

Now... there is more water UNDER the ground than there is ABOVE.

If you represented Earth with an APPLE, the skin of the apple is thicker than the CRUST of the Earth. The same amount off water on the surface would be represented by washing the apple of under the faucet, just before wiping it off.
