73,441,399 Gun Purchase Background Checks Under Obama; NJ Spikes 41% in May

There have been 73,441,399 background checks for gun purchases since President Obama took office, according to data released by the FBI.

In 2009, the FBI conducted 14,033,824 background checks. If we subtract the month of January (Obama did not assume office until the end of the month) we get 12,819,939.

The FBI conducted 14,409,616 background checks in 2010, 16,454,951 in 2011, and 19,592,303 in 2012.

Add to that the first five months of 2013 (2,495,440, 2,309,393, 2,209,407, 1,714,433 and 1,435,917 respectively) and the total number of background checks under President Obama comes to 73,441,399.

Since December 2012, when the gun sale surge hit its peak, background checks for gun purchases have slowly declined each month.

With the exception of California, New Jersey and Utah, background checks for gun purchases decreased in every state from April to May.

New Jersey - a state that awaits Governor Christie's decision on a number of new gun bills - saw its largest number of background checks in a single month since the FBI began tracking data in 1998.

A total of 12,656 background checks were completed in the Garden State, up 41 percent from the previous month's 8,977 checks.

The 73,441,399 background checks that have been completed under Barack Obama's presidency account for 43 percent of the 170,639,292 completed since 1998.

Personally, I would include the months of January 2009, plus November and December 2008. People started ramping up gun purchases back in August 2008, and that was not in anticipation of hunting season. It was in response to Juan McCain's ability to run a campaign and folks were starting to prepare for life under a Marxist.

Buy RGR and ATK stock. Then treat yourself to a new Ruger 10/22 or Ruger Mini 14. You deserve it.

Plenty of firearms out there. Just visited a local store yesterday, after a very large weekend gun show, and they had a wide range of firearms, from AR-15s to Springfield 1903s, to Winchester 94s to you name it.

What they didn't have plenty of, was ammo. What ammo they did have, was limited to one box of ammo per caliber. That is to say, if you wanted two boxes of .22lr, you were out of luck, but if you wanted one box each of .22lr and .40 S&W, you could buy both.

Where is the corresponding spike gun crime? Maybe more guns really don’t = more crime?

There has not been much good news for America in the past five terrible years, but those 73 million checks and the even larger number of firearms sold, are a bright beacon of hope for freedom.

Hence the discussion activity around drones in the US. The government needs protection from the people.

Yes, you know the ammo shelves are really picked clean when even the 5mm Remington Rimfire is sold out.

We need a FReeper with experience in the ammo manufacturing business to start a new company. Call it Free Republic Ammo and take investors. Seriously, I’m in for 10k. Plus I’ll be a good customer.

Barack Obama, for all his faults, continues to be the most successful firearms salesman in the entire history of the world, with the exception of Kaiser Bill, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Hideki Tojo.

I hope it bugs the leftists are desperate to get “guns off the street” to know that Obamas election is responsible for probably 35 million extra guns on the street.

Post of the day!!

I'd be in for 10K+ too, but would want it to prioritize civilian sales w/o price gouging.

Scares me that it’s so LOW.

It should be three times that number.

My neighbor went to an auction of over 700 firearms. He bought 17 and only had one background check, He said that many others bought many more than he did.

It would just take a man or two, like your father, that knew the industry to get started. I imagine knowing about permits or licenses would be the hardest part. After that I bet it would be smooth sailing!

I would be on-board also, but I have no cash at the moment. What I bring to the table is my knowledge of chemistry (especially manufacture of primer material and other usefull chemical concoctions).
