Cheerios Commercial: Racist Slurs Force YouTube to Close Comments Section for New Ad (VIDEO)
The Christian Post ^ | May 31, 2013 | Jon Campbell

A Cheerios commercial has sparked controversy after a large group of people started posting racially charged messages about the new ad on YouTube.

The commercial features an interracial couple and their daughter, and was released by Cheerios on YouTube. However, a group of Internet "trolls" quickly began posting comments about the interracial nature of the ad, sparking such racially charged comments that YouTube eventually decided to close the comments section of the page to bring a halt to the discussion.

The 30 second commercial features a young girl talking about the nutritional value of Cheerios. She asks her mom whether Cheerios are good for your heart, to which the mother responds that they are.

The young girl then smiles and runs off with the box of Cheerios. The next shot is of the girl's father waking up on the couch with a pile of Cheerios poured out over the left side of his chest where his heart is.

The commercial seems cute and innocent to most, but a number of Internet trolls quickly took over the discussion on the YouTube comments board referring to the interracial nature of the family, which featured a white mother and black father.

Some of the comments referred to "Nazis" and "racial genocide" and more than 600 dislikes were recorded for the video. Others commented that the concept of a happy mixed-race family made them "want to vomit."

The racial slurs also spilled over onto the Cheerios Facebook page where some commenters stated that they found the commercial "disgusting."

One commenter also posted a racial slur about the likelihood of black men staying with their family, stating: "More like single parent in the making. Black dad will dip out soon."

On Reddit the comments continued, and some turned the debate into the likelihood of a black man being with a white woman, against a couple with a white man and a black woman.

In 2012, a Cheerios commercial was also targeted by racial slurs and comments. In that commercial released in June last year, two black siblings are shown at their family kitchen table, when the older brother steals the cereal from his younger brother, who is in a high chair.

One commenter on YouTube wrote: "Just goes to show you they start steeling [sic] at an early age!!! First Cheerio's next bikes then cares lol just like in real life."

Sorry, I wasn’t clear.

For the multi-culti diversity types, the highest price they can give a work of art or literature is that it is transgressive, which means that it offends people.

So what is more transgressive today than racism, and why isn’t this form of transgressiveness a good thing?

That was one of the cutest commercials I’ve seen in a long time.

What a precious little girl. The look on dad’s face was priceless, too.

The premise of the commercial is that eating Cheerios helps with heart disease. So the daughter in the commercial wants the overweight guy on the couch to eat them to be healthier. In the PC world of all things need to look like the rest of America (meaning no caucasions) they put an interracial family in the commercial. Men, overweight individuals, and persons of color, tend to have higher incidents of higher blood pressure and heart disease, so Cheerios is marketing the cereal to those groups. The guy on the couch is a two-fer. Diversity and health marketing. The low information racists saw the overweight person of color on the couch as a stereotype.

Yep it is liberating to face off with the true racism on the left side of the spectrum. All the Affirmative Action fools in Corporate America are full of crap and think these crappy diversity ads are appealing. They are too stupid to trust!

Like he is lazy and has a bucket of fried chicken stashed under the couch? So the libs have their gripes with this commercial :)

Yup. When I saw the guy he was an overweight guy on the couch. Could care less about which ethnic group he was. If they put a fat mom on the couch there would be more controversy. Bashing males is more PC.

I am sure there was a reason why Cheerios chose this particular ad. On the Cheerios ad, like a previous commentor, I had not even noticed what the hubbub was about until it was pointed out For years now every commercial on tv and in ads, has been promoting multi-culturism and diversity. It is almost comical that when a bunch of kids or adults are shown, there is mostly always one from each ethnic group portrayed. Maybe that is a good thing...subliminal acceptance? Very soon, it will be promoting homosexual lifestyles, and then religious diversity to include those religions not presently acceptable (Islam, fr’instance). We are being, softly, mentally prepared for a whole different country.

I will say if an alien came to earth and watched nothing but US television, he would infer that the country was 30% black people.

You forgot Presidents, Airline pilots, surgeons, pharmacists, Astronomers, Physicists, researchers, etc., in U.S. Movies.

All kinds of TV adverts have smart women with a dufus guy preferably a white guy. We are becoming a gynocracy. I would love to know the female percentage in the permanent bureaucracy in Washingtoon DC

50% of all marriages end in divorce. The figure for first marriages isn’t that high. Gotta learn to decipher those stats

The chronically grumbly Israelites would have been happier if they had spent all that time in the dessert; I believe you mean desert :-).

It’s a crude order of magnitude stab at the figure on my part, and it obviously differs by social group. What really floored me was to learn that people calling themselves Christians were not much better at keeping lasting marriages than other people. “Christian” has been dumbed down to mean something like “nice-ish people who sometimes visit a church.”

I am a college educated black woman who has been married to a lovely college educated white man for 25 years. We have a beautiful intelligent daughter who is a junior in college and a handsome intelligent son who will start at a Christian college this fall. I just don’t see what the big deal is about skin color. Apparently, God likes variety. He saw fit to make people different, flowers different, animals different....so who cares.

Since when has being a sleeping husband a “power position”? I am African-American and my husband is white. Believe me, when he is napping on the couch...he don’t look very powerful.

I live in the Tidewater area of Virginia; home of the largest Navy Base in the world. There are a gazillion biracial children here due to interracial marriages that military members bring into the community. It is just more common and accepted today.

We would get along if I met you. I just don’t believe in inter-racial marriage or dating. Only 10% of the world’s population is white and I don’t like to see it decreasing. In 1900 white were 25% of the worlds population because we invented and were developing modern medicine, were reducing mothers death at childbirth, developing sound public sanitation, reducing infant mortality. As knowledge of theses measures spread other populations increased making whites only 10% of the worlds people
It’s bad enough that white birthrates are low in Europe and whites in UK (and others) will be swamped by Muslims and other immigrants

The inter-racial marriage you see in Tidewater. Is it more white-Asian or more white-black. Black-Asian is not common
