Cheerios Commercial: Racist Slurs Force YouTube to Close Comments Section for New Ad (VIDEO)
The Christian Post ^ | May 31, 2013 | Jon Campbell

A Cheerios commercial has sparked controversy after a large group of people started posting racially charged messages about the new ad on YouTube.

The commercial features an interracial couple and their daughter, and was released by Cheerios on YouTube. However, a group of Internet "trolls" quickly began posting comments about the interracial nature of the ad, sparking such racially charged comments that YouTube eventually decided to close the comments section of the page to bring a halt to the discussion.

The 30 second commercial features a young girl talking about the nutritional value of Cheerios. She asks her mom whether Cheerios are good for your heart, to which the mother responds that they are.

The young girl then smiles and runs off with the box of Cheerios. The next shot is of the girl's father waking up on the couch with a pile of Cheerios poured out over the left side of his chest where his heart is.

The commercial seems cute and innocent to most, but a number of Internet trolls quickly took over the discussion on the YouTube comments board referring to the interracial nature of the family, which featured a white mother and black father.

Some of the comments referred to "Nazis" and "racial genocide" and more than 600 dislikes were recorded for the video. Others commented that the concept of a happy mixed-race family made them "want to vomit."

The racial slurs also spilled over onto the Cheerios Facebook page where some commenters stated that they found the commercial "disgusting."

One commenter also posted a racial slur about the likelihood of black men staying with their family, stating: "More like single parent in the making. Black dad will dip out soon."

On Reddit the comments continued, and some turned the debate into the likelihood of a black man being with a white woman, against a couple with a white man and a black woman.

In 2012, a Cheerios commercial was also targeted by racial slurs and comments. In that commercial released in June last year, two black siblings are shown at their family kitchen table, when the older brother steals the cereal from his younger brother, who is in a high chair.

One commenter on YouTube wrote: "Just goes to show you they start steeling [sic] at an early age!!! First Cheerio's next bikes then cares lol just like in real life."

People should grow up. If they don’t like the ad, they should just not buy the product.

I have seen the most insane, filthy comments on YouTube, posted on videos for things like Buklgarian folk dancing and a video of a ring-tailed cat!

People with something like Touette’s syndrome, is what I think. Compulsive need to talk filth.

I think the bigger issue is that since Obama has been elected - and all opposition to him is called racist by the MSM - people feel more free, not less, to say whatever the hell they want no matter how non-PC it is - especially anonymously on the internet.

Some in real life are nice “restrained” people...but let them post anomalously and the evil comes out.

Many trolls come just to stir it up. They say the most offensive and outrageous things just to watch the fall out. It isn’t necessarily what the troll believes, it is chaos that they crave. Like kicking an ant hill or something...it’s virtual nowadays.

Why not just say it?

When little old white Christian women carrying flags at TEA Party rallies became the New KKK, the Race card maxxed itself out

Exactly right. And the problem is that a tiny tiny subset of insane trolls create the impression that there’s an army of virulent racists in society. The trolls in fact may not even be heartfelt racists, they just like to make people angry. It’s a different disease.

The liberals will use this as evidence of how racist and bigoted conservatives are.

The fact that there is venomous material on DU, Daily Kos, etc. written by leftists will not be reported.

If the MSM widely reports this, they will ignore the crap written by leftists on internet sites, and show selective outrage at what some people say.

Starting to see more and more racial divide stories and broadcasts.

The number of media stories about Pretoria and Capetown S. Africa is increasing. All the stories are about white hatred of blacks.

I’m thinking a foundation is being laid to put whites back in their corner by focusing on hyped stories exposing intolerance.

And I would not believe that racist comments against blacks on the internet are being done by normal white people. I believe it is a fabrication designed to deceive. There have already been busts made of liberals acting as white racists against blacks in order to foment racial tensions.

Even true white racists don’t go on the internet to express their brand of intolerance. They hide out and keep to themselves. I smell a setup.

The increasing frequency of these false flags tells me possibly someone is pulling the strings of media types to get the focus onto white racism and away from other matters of importance.

Cute commercial, showed it to my wife told her that they had to disable the comments due to the racist comments. She watched it a second time and said. “I didn't even notice the firs time that it was an interracial couple”. I replied, “And that is why we are conservatives.”
