The stories of women confronting the jihadis and protecting the body of the fallen soldier have, from the first, reminded me of the Holy Myrrhbearers: only the women disciples of Jesus were brave enough to go to the tomb with embalming ointments. And like these women, doubtless they would have denied their own courage and said, “we only wanted to take care of the man.”
I realize that my following question/comment is cynical but given jihadists who committed the crime, I wonder whether any white women who tried to comfort the dying soldier would have been beheaded as well. In other words, did these women survive only as a result of the color of their skin. And damn, I hate thinking and writing things like that.
