The answer is simple:
Just once, why don’t the 5 or so Big Oil Companies pretend they have heard of John Wayne and Howard Hughes and JUST SAY NO, We are closing our refineries instead. Get your Gas somewhere else.
For the same reason you continue to pay your taxes, usually obey the speed limit laws, etc.
The consequences are too expensive.
