(Reuters) - The political establishment has dismissed Germany's new anti-euro party as a fear-mongering populist aberration that could implode even before a looming federal election.
But the first congress of the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) showed that the movement, launched only a few months ago by a group of renegade academics, journalists and businessmen, is striking a chord with voters and may prove an influential force come September.

P!
Hopefully this new party is not just directed opposition put forward by the statist!
I am in the process of discovering my family history back to the 1600s in the Bremen-Hamburg-Cuxhaven triangle, and also in Württemburg. Most of my ancestors came to America between 1850-1880.
This has required me to study German history beyond the usual exposure in schools, which places quite a bit of emphasis on the period 1871-1945.
The question of whether there is any possibility of a (legal) political expression of German self-interest is a very important one for the world. Germans of my age (I was born in 1950) appear to be allergic to the concept of German self-interest (understandably).
This pro-DM movement is quite interesting for this reason alone. What do you think?

Germans of my age (I was born in 1950) appear to be allergic to the concept of German self-interest (understandably).I agree, age has something to do with it. There is a new generation now. I was born in 1970. Even my mother was born after the war. I have read many books about the 1871-1945 period, too, but the idea that no German politician may ever act in the German interest anymore because of our “historic responsibilities” just doesn’t fly anymore. Almost all politicians in the Reichstag are obsessed with the idea of doing away with all national states and forming an EUSSR that will tell everybody in Europe how to live. I hope this is going to change now. This pro-DM movement is quite interesting for this reason alone. What do you think?
