MILLER: Democratic front group hyped as hunters by media in gun control fight

Politico story claim gun owners support Obama’s ‘universal background checks’

The liberal media will do anything to pressure lawmakers to support President Obama’s gun-control agenda.

Politico published a story Wednesday with this headline: “Hunting Group Wants Background Checks.” The story gave the false impression that the millions of hunters in the U.S. support Mr. Obama’s push for “universal background checks.”

That is way off target. In fact, 31 well-known hunting and conservation groups sent a letter to Capitol Hill Thursday expressing opposition to intrusion by the federal government into private firearm transfers.

Politico only cites one small group in its story, Bull Moose Sportsmen, which claims 5,000 members. The story gives no context for the size of this group in relation to other hunting advocacy groups, nor its prominence in the community. The single poll cited in the Politico story is one commissioned by the group itself and claims 72 percent of hunters support “criminal background checks with some exceptions.”

None of the major hunting groups which represent the millions of law-abiding sportsmen was mentioned, nor the polling of those members.

In fact, Bull Moose Sportsmen is a fringe organization run by Democratic activists that has been rejected from membership into the major gun and hunting groups’ umbrella organization because it refuses to reveal its funding sources.

Bull Moose —> Bull Moose Party —> Progressive Party

They’re not even really trying to hide it.

Good find. And good journalism.

Agreed. And quite the rarity nowadays. Not surprising that it was the Wash Times, and not the Wash ComPost or the Gay Lady.

This current crop of RINO effers in DC will pretend they believe the lopsided anti-gun polls the MSM is reporting so they’ll go along with the government confiscation of firearms which is just a question of time. Why do I conclude that? Because they all voted for the NDAA. The deeper in to the hole of destruction this country is allowed to go, the longer and harder it will be to climb back out, if that will even be possible. The only promise the obozo hussein has kept is his promise to fundamentally change the US. And is he ever effing us over!

They are a 501c and you can ask for their annual report, which will tell where they get their funding.

They have to mail it by law.

Why does this remind me of the Bull Moose Party under T. Roosevelt, who was a populist-progressive, tree-hugging elitist president with delusions of grandeur? If you think the big hunting made him a Conservative, there is a deed to a New York bridge in your name at City Hall.

T. Roosevelt was one of the very founders of progressivism. He was a very impressive guy.

If he could come back, he would be astounded at what became of his movement. I doubt that he ever considered that it could end where it is today.

That is what he deserves for thinking that the Constitution was obsolete. Teddy Roosevelt did more to expand Government power than any other president before him, with the possible exception of Lincoln.

Teddy Roosevelt did more to expand Government power than any other president before him, with the possible exception of Lincoln.

I hestitate to agree with people who shout "Teddy Roosevelt was a [communist] Prog!" One of the people shouting that loudest has been Obozo, trying to use a Rushmore Republican President to "endorse" posthumously his Sovietcare scheme.

In fact, Roosevelt never even came close to endorsing Communist medicine. The plank the Obamaliars point to in the 1912 Progressive Party platform refers to what nowadays is called "key man" insurance, or "short-term disability", and would have been a private insurance arrangement paid for privately by industrial employers (only -- not everyone), to help deal with serious, crippling mill and plant workplace injuries.

Obama lied. As usual. Repeatedly, again as usual.

Once again, Emily Miller hits this out of the park.

I bet the Joyce Foundation is bankrolling this.
