MILLER: Second Amendment crumbling as gun-control victories spread
The Washington Times ^ | April 4, 2013 | Emily Miller

The Second Amendment got attacked this week from three sides, leaving gun owners scrambling to find safe ground. While President Obama has lost momentum for federal gun-control laws, he has picked up victories with his allies in blue states and at the United Nations.

After Thursday, Connecticut should consider changing its state nickname from the “Constitution State” to the “Unconstitutional State” after Gov. Dannel Malloy signed an extremely restrictive gun-control law. The bill passed the state House Thursday morning and the Senate on Wednesday.

Before the Newtown tragedy, the Brady Campaign determined that Connecticut was the fifth highest-rated state for restrictive gun-control laws. Adam Lanza ignored those laws — such as including stealing the guns, carrying them without a permit and violating the federal “gun free” school zone — in his evil mission to murder school children and teachers.

Connecticut lawmakers decided that its current “assault weapon” ban, which had a two-characteristic test, was not severe enough, so all semi-automatic rifles with one scary-looking feature are illegal. The bill cites 100 specific makes and models that are banned, such as the AR and AK.

There is a new eligibility certificate required before purchasing or receiving a long gun, which is defined as any firearm that is not a pistol or revolver. These certificates cost $35 and are issued by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection, but there is no time limit on how long the application process can take. Also, buying or even transferring a long gun — such as a father passing down his shotgun to his son — requires a background check and registration. The penalty for violating this provision would be a felony.

For 30+ years now bloat gov is has incrementally been chipping away... How many FA laws now? 25,000? 30,000?

Is anyone surprised? Bloat gov creates hundreds of new laws every year...

Who is surprised by this?

America is being destroyed and the only satisfaction is those that are destroying it will be destroyed themselves. No bigger fool than idiots that cannot see the future of a destroyed free land. Hopefully we can save a few States and move there. The rest will kill each other trying to survive.

It isn’t going to affect me. I am not going to comply. I won’t ‘register’ what I have. Anything I transfer or sell will be backdated, and I have all the weapons and ammo I need for now, and I am not going to turn in shit.

They will have to come and get them, if they can find them.

A couple of radical leftist state government’s have passed gun control laws against the will of their people.

That’s is not a loss.

Can’t wait for 2014.

This was 100 percent predictable when this nation decided to elect more Socialists and reelect Obama. Anyone who thinks the left isn’t out to get all our guns is too foolish to vote.

I should clarify my above post: It’s not a loss because it could activate a ton of people to vote these radicals out of office.

However, in the short-term; it is a loss of freedom and regrettable.

They’re fine here in Kentucky. It’s one of the reasons I moved here. Federally they have not taken a hit, though they keep trying.

I’m afraid you’re right my friend. The Socialists, Marxists and Leftists will not get them all by a long shot but they will keep trying.

The lawsuits have not begun.

“...shall not be infringed.” might still mean something.

and from their Constitution:
“SEC. 15. Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.”

I feel the same way you do, but I don’t think you have to worry in Georgia.

I’m not really worried here in Maine, either. The moonbats introduced a flurry of anti-gun bills in Maine’s legislature in January, but they are going nowhere. In addition, our governor, Paul LePage, is a conservative TEA Party guy who has attended pro-Second Amendment rallies and he has repeatedly said he will protect the right-to-keep-and-bear arms as long as he is the governor. He has a history of not taking any crap from the democrats.

Also, most Maine democrats have firearms, so we should be OK here.

You’d think it wouldn’t hurt us, but my inkling is that they’ll get what they’re REALLY after nationally. Universal background checks which are worthless without record keeping - which is REGISTRATION. And, THAT is just confiscation not yet executed.

Don’t worry Emily, we will use this issue to galvanize Colorado back into the Red column.

Steffan Schpiellllllberhhhhgggggg would like to recall this scene. Replace the Lugers with walkie talkies. And.....AND... get rid of that Yellow Star on the “detainee’s” jacket and replace it with an American Flag patch.

I heard support for so-called “universal background checks” in Congress is waning.

Thank God we have Senators Paul, Cruz, and Lee gearing up for a filibuster if needed.
