Texas district attorney, wife found dead at home, 2 months after assistant prosecutor killed

A central Texas prosecutor and his wife were found killed in their house two months after one of his assistants was gunned down near their office, authorities said.

Investigators found the bodies of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, on Saturday, Kaufman County sheriff’s Lt. Justin Lewis said. Police, FBI agents, Texas Rangers and deputies were part of the investigation.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was shot to death in a parking lot a block from his office on Jan. 31. No arrests have been made in his death.

Lewis declined to say how the couple died or whether authorities believe their deaths are linked to Hasse’s. He wouldn’t provide further details. Kaufman County is 33 miles southeast of Dallas.

Kaufman Police Chief Chris Aulbaugh told The Dallas Morning News that the McLellands had been shot in their home and although investigators didn’t know if their deaths were related to Hasse’s killing, they couldn’t discount it.

“It is a shock,” Aulbaugh told the newspaper. “It was a shock with Mark Hasse, and now you can just imagine the double shock and until we know what happened, I really can’t confirm that it’s related but you always have to assume until it’s proven otherwise.”

the feds and all the politicians complement each other on what a great job they've done as they concoct and create more controlling laws directed at American citizens.

Maybe it was this guy or his buddies?

In May 2012, North East Texas Tactical was attacked by the anti-gunners and anti-patriots. The Kaufman County DA at the time made it a personal goal to keep me from opening. As a 12 year veteran of both wars and a law abiding citizen I have followed every letter of every law in the development of this range. I have shown that I am willing to, and have, gone above and beyond what a normal range owner would do.

When I returned home from Afghanistan in April of 2012 the DA at the time welcomed me home with a restraining order preventing the operation of the range. Now mind you this is a PRIVATE range open 2 days a week where I shoot and where several of my friends have shot. Thousands of rounds have been sent down range without incident. Not one law has been broken, not one ordinance violated, yet there was very strong push back from the DA on account of one neighbor who does not even live near the firing line. There is no huge public outcry for shutting down this range, just one guy. Although the Kaufman County DA was tragically killed recently, we have no reason to believe the pressure from the neighbor will cease.

The case has made its way up to the appellate courts in Dallas and the dismissed it without reaching the merits. That means we have to go to trial in September, then if we need to back to the appeals court. Thanks to all of you who donated to the cause, I was able to retain the best possible attorney for this case. He wrote S.B. 766 and knows it upside down and backwards. We are and have always been operating well within the law and our constitutional rights. We are praying for a swift resolution to all of this madness. Keep NETT in your thoughts and prayers and we will keep plugging along.

My above post was updated today, below is what a cashed version of his web site now says. Anyone notice the difference in this cashed version?

Now I have several Aces up my sleeve that I hope I never have to use. If the public appointed officials continue to side with their friends over the law I will hold them accountable. The people of Kaufman County will hold them accountable.

Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland took no chances after one of his assistant prosecutors was assassinated two months ago. McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and took extra care when answering the door at his home.

Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland:

“I’m ahead of everybody else because, basically, I’m a soldier,” the 23-year Army veteran boasted in an interview less than two weeks ago.

No offense, but you would make a lousy detective. Don’t you think this guy would be one of the first ones looked at and cleared? Anyway, I heard an interview with this guy on a radio gun show, and he just calmly explained that he wants to keep his range open and is taking all legal avenues to do so. People edit blog postings all the time. Who wouldn’t especially with the character assassination that takes place online and in the media.

So the man with the range beef has already been eliminated as a suspect?

And what will Texas to defend itself after it secedes? Raise an Air Force? And an Army? And a Navy? Fund and pay for bombers, and fighter jets, and cruise missiles? Build battleships and destroyers and aircraft carriers? Please enlighten us as to how the future Republic of Texas will defend itself properly?

says the D.A. was armed and wary

When answering the door at 3 AM is best to be on speed dial to 911 services. No good come to door, without calling ahead, at 3 AM.

Oh... missed the 3:00 a.m. part.

Ya...I might be tempted to hunker down, well armed, until either the bad guys presented a target, or the cops arrived.

That’s why I mentioned the video equipped intercom and the security cameras, for somebody in that position.

Best to know what’s going on outside, when something goes ‘bump’ in the night.

Having trouble determining if door was kicked in or not. Sounds as though all doors are going to be strengthen just like the airline cockpits had to do though.

Kick my doors in at 3:00 a.m. and see if you can get to our bedroom before I get to nail you...

You’re front lit with motion lights, and I’m in a dark covered position.

Unless you’re spraying full auto .308, you’re mine.

Sounds like you have a plan and this is good. I have a one, two, and three plan. If first two are defeated then I, like you, go to plan three. Texans may want a one, two, three, and four plan. Texas is more dangerous than I thought yesterday. If you are not in Texas, a one, two, three plan is perhaps okay for the moment. What bothers me most is this man was LE or affiliated with LE and should have had at a minimum of a one, two and three plan. Makes me wonder if he was setup with a phone call ... and he thought the arriving person was a friendly if the door was not kicked in.

Yeah but he backs a city council that wants to extend park hours for a running trail that will take more LEO to patrol costing 2.8 million a year. Acevedo is a California interloper just like a third of the city of Autism’s population.

IF Texas were to secede, there’s no rational basis for ASSUMING it would require aircraft carriers, cruise missles etc in order to survive. What it would clearly do is assess its security needs and act accordingly.

Is it your assumption, bd45, that whatever was left of the United States’ military at that point, would sit idly by while a foreign power attacked Texas within its state borders and lift not a finger in reaction? And I mean not a small fracas or guerilla war but using massive armaments such as missles and nukes, etc to attack the same land mass that is shared by the United States and Texas, and lift not a finger in reaction? Assuming it still had the armaments to react?

If you assume that, just know that it isn’t a realistic assumption. Whatever was left of the U.S. military would have a burning self-interest in reacting to a massive, dangerous attack on a seceded TX by a foreign power.

Or, I’m wondering, do you assume that the U.S., itself, would attack TX using missles, nukes, aircraft carriers, etc. ??

Riiiiight...

ping to follow up later...

There seems a likely link between the cartels and the AB prison gangs...coincidences happen less often than people think, IMHO.

Prayers up for Kaufman county residents and ALL, for safety, security, and peace of mind to sleep at night!
