Texas district attorney, wife found dead at home, 2 months after assistant prosecutor killed

A central Texas prosecutor and his wife were found killed in their house two months after one of his assistants was gunned down near their office, authorities said.

Investigators found the bodies of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, on Saturday, Kaufman County sheriff’s Lt. Justin Lewis said. Police, FBI agents, Texas Rangers and deputies were part of the investigation.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was shot to death in a parking lot a block from his office on Jan. 31. No arrests have been made in his death.

Lewis declined to say how the couple died or whether authorities believe their deaths are linked to Hasse’s. He wouldn’t provide further details. Kaufman County is 33 miles southeast of Dallas.

Kaufman Police Chief Chris Aulbaugh told The Dallas Morning News that the McLellands had been shot in their home and although investigators didn’t know if their deaths were related to Hasse’s killing, they couldn’t discount it.

“It is a shock,” Aulbaugh told the newspaper. “It was a shock with Mark Hasse, and now you can just imagine the double shock and until we know what happened, I really can’t confirm that it’s related but you always have to assume until it’s proven otherwise.”

Surely they had video security at his residence and caught this assassin on tape —

Mexican drug cartels. They are all over the American Southwest, and are pretty firmly entrenched in the Chicago area, as well.

All the slaughter that has been going on in Mexico for years will now become commonplace here.

Thanks a lot, Obungo and Holdup and the Napster.

Who was that prosecutor in Texas who went after the two border agents?

Wasn't his name Sutton?

The killer or killers have been biding their time waiting for things to kool down before striking again. This time the attack seems to have been coordinated with a thunderstorm to mask the sound of gunfire. Sounds as if the investigators haven't a clue and have been grabbing at straws.

That gun from the Wise County shootout was same caliber (9mm) and the ammo the same manufacture (Federal, Remington, Wolf, CCI ?) as the Colorado shooting but not a declared match. How many 9MM are going to have the same ammo with them? If the firing pin and cambering marks don't match then what?

"How could one be certain?"

Depends how one believes in "coincidence". I don't.

Sutton was a Federal Prosecutor.

Most believe that all of this is the work the Mexican cartels or the Aryan Brotherhood and all are shook up and scared.

What are you basing this on?

In one sentence you're suggesting there is little factual information and in the next your naming suspects/organizations.

Sound like pure speculation to me.

Actually the prevailing theory by both the FBI and the TDPS is that this is the work of the Aryan Brotherhood, given that the Kaufman DA had announced their involvement in a racketeering investigation of that group on the day the first guy was killed.

Did Sutton already retire?

With this kind of “hit”, I would suspect they use a different firearm for the 2nd round.

Only true street thugs, or complete idiots would use the same gun and ammo for their next hit. Especially in this circumstance.

Someone, or someone’s are sending a message. To whom and why is the question at hand.

“Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time is enemy action.” - Auric Goldfinger

I believe in coincidence, but not in incredibly unlikely coincidence. The second killing may have inspired the first, or have been unrelated. If I were an investigator, I would lean towards related, but keep an open mind.

I was just giving an explanation. He could be “is” or could be “was.” At the time of the prosecution of the border agents, he was a Federal Prosecutor.

I live in Austin and the Chief of Police has said just last week that the drug cartels are a big threat here in Central Texas. It really is very frightening to say the least.

Thanks for the explanation.

I was just curious if Sutton was still fighting for the rights of Mexican gangsters and drug smugglers.

An open mind, lol. That's one thing I lack. One of his assistants was gunned down, now he and and wife?

No coincidence there. Like I said before, it's all about “the message”.

I would take this as one....to whom ever “they” are sending it to.

Tell your police chief this stuff has been going on and escalating for 3 or so decades. All this while those in law enforcement, the feds and all the politicians complement each other on what a great job they've done as they concoct and create more controlling laws directed at American citizens.

Here's one of them waving and posing for pics...
