Des Moines Register Publishes, Pulls Map of Guarded and Unguarded Schools

On Wednesday evening, the Des Moines Register published an item still present on its site discussing the general degree of presence or absence of resource officers at Iowa schools. It also published a "handy" interactive map, since taken down, of which schools have resource officers, which ones don't, and which ones didn't respond to a survey on the topic.

Newsmax reportst that the map had "Red dots marking those without security, green those with and gray those that did not respond. The map was overwhelmingly red." This obviously helps anyone wishing to cause mischief or mayhem at a school a useful list of soft targets.

The Register's editor appears not to have expressed any regret for the paper's move based on a search on "map" at its web site. The article had 54 comments at the time this post was written, none of them favorable, and quite a few justifiably outraged.

One commenter said it best:

Posting where all of your WEAKNESSes are and pointing them out to violent people is IRRESPONSIBLE and should be held ACCOUNTABLE!!! This is not "freedom of the press", this is compromising the safety of our CHILDREN!!! Whether there is security at the school or not, it shouldn't be posted on BILLBOARDS for "all" to see.

So why are liberals afraid to post the locations of “Gun Free School Zones?”

Because they know they don’t work? And that they are hypocrites?

Tempest in a teapot.
Stupid, hysterical reaction by the brainless no info people.

What is the practical difference between this and the brainless, useless, criminal signs put up by hundreds or thousands of schools nationwide, reading, "GUN FREE ZONE??!!"

Even the Fox News' Megyn Kelly went hysterical over it before she took the time to activate her brain.

” - - - The Register’s editor appears not to have expressed any regret for the paper’s move - - - “

Why would a Newspaper Editor chose to aid and abet criminals who prey on children?

This is quite interesting. Apparently the editor hasn't really thought through the issues ~ just thinking he probably ought to talk to the paper's property and casualty insurerer before he tries targeting children to be shot again.

Wonder if this has been brought to the attention of the insurer ~ probably State Farm in that part of the country.

Publishing the map hoping someone will commit an act of barbarism there them realizing that they would be also blamed & that the folks would not just sit & wait for the legal system to figure out who to blame but would settle scores the old fashioned way.

In a way, I was kind of glad to see the media filling their role as the watchdog of the state for a change. They’re just reporting the facts. If the state schools don’t like it, they can get security or come up with a better plan.

I am getting super bored of Megan’s tiresome “as a mother” arguments. All mothers are experts now...
