I don’t believe Romney personally wanted to lose but I think the Washington power brokers did. Romney could have overcome it by showing a little fire. After winning the nomination, Romney reminded me of Théoden in LOTR, with Gríma Wormtongue (Karl Rove) whispering poison in his ear. Too bad there wasn't a Gandalf to slap some sense into Romney to rid him of all the consultants.
