He talks about what it was like as a child when his family got its first washing machine. He goes on to say that in poor countries, the difference between having a washing machine and not having one is the difference between women having time to read and be educated or not being able to do those things. He then goes on to say that there are 5 billion people who don’t have access to a washing machine.
Also, he criticizes environmentalists who use washing machines but are opposed to people in poor countries getting access to washing machines.
