I was partially wrong on the law. The State of Ohio law prohibits all political signs on public highway right of ways and the highway department is mandated to remove them and store them for 30 days and then destroy them if the owners don’t claim them. The State has no jurisdiction over signs on private property, but nearly every jusrisdiction has an ordinance prohibiting or regulating the length of time a political sign can be displayed.
I’m unclear if a 4 foot by 8 foot “Obama Sucks” sign falls under restriction or not.

The issue is not that it was a political sign but rather that it was private property and in Texas if you enter on to someone’s property and intentionally cause damage, it is a felony.
