About 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, a suspected armed robber entered Leddy's Candy Store at15928 Grand River and demanded cash from the 54-year-old owner, who is licensed to carry a concealed firearm.
He produced his weapon and fatally shot the intruder, who was about 40 years old, according to Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens.
Leddy's Candy Store sells retail and wholesale confections.
The owner of the store told Local 4 the business, which has operated since 1926, has been robbed several times in the past few months.
The shooter was taken into police custody for questioning. Stephens could not confirm if he had been released as of Tuesday evening.
Detroit police had recorded 32 homicides through Feb. 3 of this year, three fewer than by the same date in 2012.
This is the third justified shooting by a permitted concealed gun owner to gain publicity this month.

Thanks. See why I asked you?
He sure looks young for being 40 years old. He’s missing a few teeth tho, likely due to his candy habit.
He was one of the disadvantaged yutes and wanted a tour of the chocolate factory real bad.
So, the good guys in Detroit are shooting the bad guys now? It’s about time, that’s encouraging.
Who can take a bad guy, drop him dead with two
Cover them with lead and a drop another few
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ‘cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Yes it is and it's also typical of the local media to not follow up on the story or to portray it accurately.
Michigan is now very pro-protection when it comes to self defense and I suspect the store owner was released shortly after being taken in for questioning.......
The only people with the guts to own super markets, gas stations and convenience stores in Detroit are Chaldeans..........
Pop rocks.
