MI:100+ Guns Turned in for Gun Buyback

LANSING (WILX)-- Lansing's 2nd gun buyback program went off with a bang. More than a hundred people came in and traded their working firearms for grocery gift card's no questions asked. Police say they received more than 120 guns from the program, most of which were hand guns.

But the event ended up bringing out more than just people looking to turn in their guns.

--------------------cut-------------------------

Just outside where the buyback program was being held pro gun activists were offering cash for guns. Police say the group was fully within their legal rights to be making deals on the street, but it's those types of loop holes in the law that Bernero says need to be fixed.

President of Michigan Open Carry Phillip Hofmeister has a different view.

"I think that's what's right with our laws today in that we live in a free country. We give people an alternative. Rather than getting fire arms destroyed we put them in the hands of responsible people who will use them in a responsible way," said Hofmeister.

"Buyback" is a propaganda term designed to mislead. The firearms never belonged to the government in the first place. These "buybacks" are simply political theater designed to delegitimize armed citizens and the ownership of firearms.

Their practical effects are to waste police resources, defraud ignorant widows of valuable property, destroy significant assets, and increase the demand for new guns by reducing the supply of old guns.

We need a new term to counter “Buyback”.

“Pittance paid confiscation”

“More than a hundred people came in and traded their working firearms for grocery gift card’s no questions asked.”

Yes, so it can be reported that WORKING guns are off the streets now, “no questions asked”.

So they must have had a range set up to TEST the firearms before they were bought *BACK*. Right.

Hmmm. Private sale between two private individuals? Sounds okay to me. If the LEOs were concerned maybe they should have run their own checks and arrested some gang bangers. Kinda doubt that any baddies would be buying or selling guns with the cops a few feet away. As for the guns turned in for a grocery card, if I remember correctly, there is a don’t ask don’t tell policy as far as checking to see if they were used in a crime or not. Let’s see. Grocery card or cash? I’ll take the cash.

Molon labe.

Interestingly enough, the gift card leaves a trail.

Just check security cams where the gift cards were used.

I have been promoting and using the term “turn in”. It is much more accurate.

Yeah, I know. Just like all credit/debit cards and all those dang store “reward cards”. I can’t convince somebody who lives in my house that we need to use cash and no store reward cards whenever possible. Then again, if they want you, they’ll find you. Maybe they can get some help tracking people from publishers clearing house. They can find anybody. LOL!

Thanks for the post; ping.

If you have a gun that you wish to get rid of and didn't make it to the gun buyback program you can still call police and they will come to your home and remove the weapon with no questions asked.

Gas, officer-time, gift cards. Who pays for this? What if the officer gets sent to a drug house by rival gangbangers? Lots of unintended consequences possible.

With just short of 300,000,000 guns out there in the hands of the general public, a groceries for guns program that gets the cops another couple of hundred for their collections AIN'T NO THANG.

It's just propaganda.

Participating in a gun buy back is like having yourself castrated because you believe that the neighbors have too many kids.

And everyone believes these are not gov’t “plants” bringing in guns the gov’t already owns? IMO, these “buys” are nothing more than propaganda stunts designed to make people think “working” guns are being traded for a food card.

Are you smarter than a third grader?

Working guns? How would they know that until AFTER they gave them the card and went and tested them? That is so stupid!

If these morons are so worried about having a gun around the house, why does it take a gift card for free groceries to get them to get rid of the guns? Just asking.

120 down. 200,000,000 to go. Only in liberal land could that be considered a “success”.

And in reality, that’s 120 people who can’t defend themselves from the criminals in that city. Who most certainly didn’t turn in their weapons.
