Republicans prepare for a comeback: ‘We can’t come off as a bunch of angry white men’

By Chris Moody, Yahoo! News

Political Reporter

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Republican National Committee members gathered here to re-elect Chairman Reince Priebus for a second term. But by week's end, that vote seemed secondary to the question of the party's long term survival.

After three months of denial, anger, despair and depression over the results of a bruising national election that gave Democrats an edge in Congress and kept President Barack Obama in the White House, Republicans know they must adapt if they are to move forward.

They acknowledge that it's time for a serious gut check. (Or as Haley Barbour put it in November, a "proctology exam.")

Whatever bodily metaphor you choose, the fact remains that the election so jolted and shocked the party that it is taking real steps to change.

And change they will! As soon as they figure out how.

While Republicans in Virginia and other battleground states launched an effort this week to alter electoral college rules so that votes are doled out proportionately--which would likely give the GOP at least a short term edge--GOP leaders here discussed their party's own shortcomings and sought areas of internal improvement.

Almost every conversation in the bar of the Charlotte Westin Hotel this week involved a discussion about what the party must do to win the next elections. Floating through the air is a desire to re-capture glorious days of the past, a challenge made difficult by a country that refuses to stand still. Demographics are changing, minorities are growing in political influence and views on social issues like gay marriage are drifting rapidly leftward. Something's got to give.

The problem is that the electorate has become depraved and has no interest in voting the issues. This is why polls showed that a majority of the electorate didn't like obama's agenda, but voted for him anyway.

They have been seduced by the blandishments of big government promises, and with the collusion of the media, relieved of the burden of critical thinking. As always, the party must find a way to circumvent the media roadblocks.

Right on, and the party keeps re-electing losers like Reince Priebus and expect to win again! No wonder the party is in this mess.

To me the message is we want to be liked rather than feared. In the end theyll get neither.

That is why we must capture our Local GOP offices FIRST.

Then they help to select the National Leaders.

But skipping to the Senate never hurt either.

They need to retake the cloak of populism. They’re the party of freedom, common sense, and working Americans.
The dems are the party of the elites, the anal retentive, and the government. They just need to start making that clear day after day.

Time to say, “if you want to run your own life, stop voting for people who want to run it for you”.

and that’s why they’re “The Stupid Party”. To the limited extent they actually control how they “come off”, they will take the wrong approach..... again. They just don’t get that the media is NEVER going to like them, because the media is their political enemy. How can they not see something so blatantly obvious?

I remember GOP elitists badmouthing Palin, badmouthing the tea party folk, badmouthing conservative candidates in the various 2010 elections around the country.

They still think standing on principle is embarrassing.

So if they are embarrassed of me and what I believe in, I’m not sure why I should support them. Their “winning” strategy is to find the center of the electorate and stand there. They have no intention of persuading the electorate that their principles are right, because they don’t believe in them themselves.

It’s easy to bash the GOP, but I’m not putting this on the party. They put up a good ticket, certainly one more qualified than the two jerks at the top now. The grifters, perverts, and angry minorities have a few more of them than us at this point. Hopefully it will swing back. I doubt anything discussed at a hotel ballroom will effect that change.

Well, it could be the comeback of the

Angry White/Black/Yellow/Pink/Polka Dot ... Man/Woman/Child/Alien

Those who see that the USA is destroying itself from within
That the Western World is self Immolating

That there exists a profound deterioration
in Gratitude and Humility

That the Great Commands:
Love the Lord Thy God
Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself
Are being forgotten, or willfully disobeyed

I’m 3/4’s out the door already. The GOP’s backstabbing treatment of Palin, then the tea-party, pretty much shredded my decades-long, exclusive support of the the Party. I really don’t give a damn about them anymore.

They are falling for every dem trick.

There is NOTHING more outrageously racist than the democrat party’s tactics to stir up racial trouble, buy the votes of specific races, shame and marginalize white (conservative) people, etc.

I hated the GOP for a long time but the break for me came in 2011 when they came out and admitted that they were Ashamed of the Tea party.

Coupled with how they Treated Sarah it shows that the GOP-E Doesn't want to be fixed.

I registered as a Libertarian and it feels great being off the GOPlantation.

Republicans prepare for a comeback: ‘We can’t come off as a bunch of angry white men’

Instead, try to come off as a bunch of angry AMERICANS. What a bunch of wimps! Where's the fire in your belly! Stop using libtard terms!

Where in the hell did you get the idea that the Republicans consist of only "white men"? Dammit!

Right, they made themselves easy prey for the ignorant and Liberal MSM...never mind that the MSM audience is wholly ignorant and Liberal.

The deck is stacked... unless Conservatives are willing to expose the educational system and challenge the MSM in just the way that Liberals invalidated and demonized Conservatism

Oh, this is really going to work. Can’t wait to watch them fall flat on their faces again and then all agree that it is because they need to be more moderate still.
