DEMOCRATS (109 VOTES)
My party should support it: 97%
My party should oppose it: 0%
My party should avoid the issue: 2%
Other: 1%

"Marriage equality is a vote-getter for Democrats and a vote-loser for the party of the last century, the Republicans."

"More and more states are adopting marriage equality, and it is time for the U.S.A. to lead on this issue."

"No issue has changed more dramatically than support for gay marriage over the last 10 years. In 20 years, it won't even be an issue."

"It's a nonissue. Americans support the concept. Let's move on!"...

REPUBLICANS (99 VOTES)
My party should support it: 27%
My party should oppose it: 11%
My party should avoid the issue: 48%
Other: 14%

"Wouldn't it be fascinating if, for once, the Republicans were on the front side of a historic wave, rather than thrashed around in the undertow?"

"There is a conservative case in favor of gay marriage that can easily be made around the issues of smaller government and lower taxes."

"We can't be a party that supports a zone of personal freedom and then try to use federal power to curtail it. Plus, we increasingly look prejudiced, and not a little stupid, on this issue."...

How about “the Republican Party doesn’t give a smelly Obama about gay marriage?”

After all, are not the gays interested primarily in “smelly Obamas?”

To Cave or Not to Cave? That is the question.

This forum doesn’t appear to have any “edit post” function — that problem arose on another thread, too, where I accidentally cut out a character and changed “mass” to “ass”.

Here's a better poll for you to try out:

Should two men who commonly have anal sex with each other be honored and esteemed by society as the moral equivalent of husband and wife?

Let's cut the bull-crap here, ok?

Ass abuse. That is a common malady amongst FR newbie trolls.

I think it should be incorporated into Obama’s gun law, and considered a mental deficiency, thus not allowing them to purchase firearms of any kind. It should also be published in all newspapers where “married” homosexuals live for the safety of children who may live nearby.

The issue before us is of government policy, not social conduct. The two are distinct, notwithstanding various attempts of totalitarian political ideologies to tear down the firewall between them.

“We can't be a party that supports a zone of personal freedom and then try to use federal power to curtail it.

This is a classic Libertarian/Statist Dicotomy
The Natural extension, in this context, is that family unit existence is a Contract Law issue, not a Federal Law issue.

The Federal Government, in this context, would not regulate it at all. Secondary contracts (Insurance, Education, Health, etc.) would be a matter of contract law, or locally regulated and managed.

Republicans are deeply split between Statist and Libertarian approaches, and the Libs are laughing at us

Probably prudent for the party to avoid the issue until they can find a face-saving way of getting in line with current public opinion.

We need to save our ammo for fights on issues that can be won (RKBA, spending).

True public opinion or teh manufactured for primetime public opinion?
Public opinion was against homosexuals in the military, yet it got shoved down our throats.

Here’s the message for the insiders-Us, outsiders, say Leave the damn topic and discussing this as it should be. No to gay marriage. No, not tonight, no, to tomorrow. Let the democrats push their continuance of this issue of the decline to our culture. It’s their agenda. Not the republican platform. Don’t assist that agenda. Hello. Enough, move on. If they change on his one issue, they are done. Do you understand, Gop. People support one man one woman marriage. Accept that. Tolerate our upbringings, our traditions-Simple understanding. It’s our belief in God. What is next-putting people in rooms to brainwash them/you must conform to this. We have a right for own expression of thought. Stop making the citizen out to be the problem. One having thoughts is not illegal.

Yes, I'm calling the boss in on this. Current public opinion on the subject of sodomite marriage is of no consequence. Free Republic standards are violated where there's any defense, however mild or masked, of the homosexual agenda. Jim Robinson makes it clear:

We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism...

Avoiding the issue while awaiting the whims of "current public opinion" is not advocating either Conservative or Christian values. And this is a Conservative site not a GOP forum.
