Hundreds of families have signed up to join a new community dubbed the Citadel, an armed and 'defensible' fortress city where their freedoms and liberty will be fiercely protected. Organisers have outlined plans for a community of 3,500 to 7,000 families of 'patriotic' Americans in western Idaho and more than 200 have already signed up through their website. The group has already purchased 20 acres in the area where they intend to build arms factory which will be used to fund the project.

Something very unsettling about living enclosed in a fortress...are they keeping the world out or the people in?

This has all the potential to become the secular/political version of the Branch-Davidian complex.
And we know how that ended up.

Ain’t no way in hell you could get me into that place.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And once you’re in... Ain’t no way in hell you could get out of that place. Unlesss “they” allowed you out.
Even if it were run by people with values, beliefs and ideals IDENTICAL to mine - it would be a societal failure in less than 2 years.
The only word that comes to my mind is “hostages”.
“Target-rich environment” also springs to mind. Whoever thought up this harebrained scheme really didn’t plan it too well. I don’t see any AA installations, for instance. And only 1 exit?
This could end up like Waco, or Jonestown. A fiery end, or vats of Flavor-Aid mixed with cyanide.
I like your analogy. Me? I'm reminded of this town.
Good catch on that one, fudimo. From the article: Readers may recall that Christian Hyman, aka Sam Kerodin, is not exactly a favorite of mine, since he appeared out of nowhere and attempted to hijack the Three Percent philosophy (with some success since there are suckers born every minute, apparently). His latest scam is something called "Citadel," wherein he persuades folks to invest in an "Armed 'Defensible' Neighborhood Fortress" in Idaho. It must be admitted that he has certainly scored another propaganda coup by talking the credulous CNS reporter into writing a story that is headlined on Drudge at the moment. Wait for the "exposes" of "gun rights criminals" which will flow from this story when the "mainstream" media begin digging into it. Can a guest shot on Piers Morgan be far behind? A very useful federal stooge is Mr. Hyman, whether he's being paid or not. Like you said, sounds like a scam; and a big one at that. Apparently this Mr. Kerodin (aka Mr. Hyman) is a convicted extortionist. Yeah....sounds like Mr. Kerodin is angling for another spell in the Big House.
Having that many people living in close quarters like that means you’re going to have a lot of strict rules and enforcement.
I’ve got far more freedom in my tiny little town of 150 people than you could ever have in a place like that.
You could land gliders on John Parker Green. Get the roof of the museum. Take the east section with the water and power. Blow a hole in the east wall for more forces to enter.
You could certainly do such a thing, I suppose. What they actually have in hand according to their website is 20 raw acres somewhere in Benewah county. They're hoping for some tax incentives to move the project along. I'm looking at a random 20-acre lot there on MLS, with road, power, and phone access. $64K. They could give you a 100% tax incentive on that and it still wouldn't be much.
I'm not quite as negative as some on the idea because it clearly is intended not for defense against a hostile government, but defense against wandering bad guys in search of an easy target (best of luck with that around here anyway, and bring yer body armor). But if you want remoteness, privacy, and mutual support you don't need anything this elaborate. I have a cabin and some terrific, trustworthy, beautiful neighbors. I'll get by without the reflecting pool.
One other thing - as I write that area is buried in snow. It's north Idaho in the wintertime. You may or may not get in, and you may or may not get out if you do get in. Last Saturday I was almost run over by a snowmobile and a moose. Separate incidents; moose can't legally run snowmobiles around here at least as far as I know. You get used to it.
Hmmmm....interior defensive walls and towers? Is that to keep the North Neighborhoods out of the East Neighborhood? Who is going to be manning those towers?
It looks like a stinking HOA.
I'll wager the local county officials are rubbing their greedy hands together at the prospect of collecting property taxes from that group.
You better take a look at their plan first.”
...I meant that these people might actually do this. In 2000 somebody simply made off with thousands of $$. It was 10K to be a part of the millennium compound.
