Following a deadly school shooting in Newtown last month, the governor has established a commission to look at limiting and possibly preventing another tragedy from ever happening again.
"It would be stupid for us not to have this conversation," said Gov. Dannel Malloy in from the State Capitol in Hartford Thursday afternoon.
Malloy announced that he is setting up a Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, which will be led by Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson.
"This issue touches me, I have a son whose in the first grade," said Jackson. "Right now, it's the most important thing for me to do."
The 15-member commission will review school safety, gun control laws and regulations and mental health issues.
"We will work together to make the state model one for the rest of the nation," Malloy said. "We can't work on this issue by ourselves here in Connecticut. Still, far too easy to buy guns and in some states and transport to our state. We need Washington to get its act together."

Malloy also noted that the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School may have not occurred if Lanza did not have access to AR-15s.
Malloy told reporters that the commission will need to look at language that describes certain weapons and the regulations governing them.
"It's clear we have to be respectful to the Constitution, but regulation needs to be supported," he said.

Did the killer even use the AR-15 in the school? From what I have heard, he used two handguns in the school and the AR-15 was found in his car outside the school.
He could have done similar damage with a shot gun, or made the school go away with a truck, fertilizer and diesel fuel. Maybe we should ban those also.
“It would be stupid for us not to have this conversation,”
That’s true, we should hold a short discussion and then outlaw “gun free zones”

Let’s discuss GFZ’s. Every mass murder since the 1950’s (with the exception of one I believe) has occurred in a GFZ.
Here we go again — another RAT trying to play to the anti-Constitution enemies of the American people.
Make yourself less useless, governor, and review security protocols.
Perhaps you should understand that laws have no effect on people who refuse to obey them, otherwise known as criminals. Perhaps you should discuss how to best defend citizens from them.
Perhaps we as citizens should recognize that you and your ilk are also in fact criminals since you refuse to obey the laws that bind you, and perhaps we as citizens should discuss the security protocols that defend us from the likes of you.
As far as I can tell, governor, you are an evil, plotting bastard.
I don’t know why they cannot grasp the concept that “Gun Free Zones” so often become killing fields.
What they should be discussing is exactly how and who should be the designated person armed at the school during school hours.
I would also put a neat sign at all entrances to every school that saying armed personnel are on duty during school hours.
It’s official. We’ve become a nation of total, bed-wetting pu**ies.

No amount of money could convince me to live in the communist NE. Not only do they want gun control and socialism for themselves, they want it for the rest of us.
Those people were killed because they were UNARMED....
Amen, brother.
I know, we should make murder illegal. That will solve the problem.

One person is killed every half-hour due to drunk driving
Each year approximately 16,000 are killed in alcohol related crashes
Alcohol is a factor in almost half of all traffic fatalities
Every other minute a person is seriously injured in an alcohol related crash
In 2008, of all homicide incidents
3.7% involved two victims
0.5% involved three victims
0.2% involved four victims
0.1% involved five or more victims.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think mass killings by a random gunman are the bigger issue.
Another TV station that hires their "journalists" right off the street. Surely someone who graduated from journalism school wouldn't make a mistake like that.
Go look at the article. Each sentence is a separate paragraph. Another example of brilliant journalism.
The Nazi chimps are going ape**** over their luck with Sandy Hook. It’s sure going to make trampling the Bill of Rights a lot easier for them.
Obviously Biden is not morally fit to do anything and should be locked up for his own protection.
Seriously, if you think of the Democrats as demons from hell it all makes sense ~ for them.
We are not up against human beings to be convinced of the rightness of a different viewpoint ~ these people are not human.
End of story!
Gov Malloy has to go slow on gun control. MD is a funny Dem state. Chesapeake area contains fishing and crabbing industry who tend to lean Dem because of clean water and environment issues. Many are blue collar fishermen who own guns. Only opponent of guns is Annapolis and Baltimore, plus the two counties next to DC filled with Fed workers. Dems usually win by 10 percent in statewide elections, but piss off the blue collar fishing community and the elections can get mighty close. Dem politicians know that that is why they chose commission to study the issue then outright ban. Just to show you how anti gun but caveat to gun owners, MD bans the sale of high capacity mags in the state, but allows people moving to have them if they already own one. A Marylander can go to PA or DE and buy a high capacity mag and bring it back to MD, but cannot order one on line from an out of state source and have it shipped to his home. I think MD will close this loophole and limit mags to 15 for pistols and 20 for rifles. NRA got to kick in gear.
