On The Road To Athens

"Thank You America" was the theme of a commercial I saw on the Rose Bowl Game telecast yesterday.

The bailed out AIG was singing the praises of our tax dollars being pumped into their company from a nation that is now trillions of dollars more in debt than it was before bailouts like theirs were pushed through Congress.

The pushing through Congress of band aids like the bailouts and now the new legislation called the "Taxpayer Relief Act" will not stop the trillions of dollars in debt from continuing to expand until new band aids will be needed.

Who is responsible for all this?

The business and political leaders of our country are certainly on the list. Democrats and yes Republicans, too.

They don't want to face the consequences of spending that is bankrupting the country so just paper it all over with "quantitative easing" or this latest band aid that is "saving us from the fiscal cliff".

But perhaps many of us out here need to face reality.

I've make mistakes that cost money in my own life and I've piled up debt loads that I felt ashamed of.

Some weeks ago Glenn Beck observed that he can't change things in the world or even change things about his family members, but he can change things about himself.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

The Serenity Prayer is one thing I can fall back on tonight as the nation's "leaders" continue to set us on the course to a Greek-Italian-Spanish-Irish European financial mess.

That's the sad end game as I see it.

Is politics a solution to this? The leaders of the parties rile up their supporters exploiting all their resentents and fears.

In the case of us conservatives, the GOP and their supporting cast of beltway insider groups- talk show hosts etc. etc. get us angry at Obama, Pelosi, Reid, labor unions, gun grabbers, liberals, big government and the list goes on.

Then they go ahead and cut deals with the above mentioned people and groups that not only leave us betrayed but disillusioned and fearful for the future of this nation.

I'm not going to resort to negative activity in response to the disaster of recent days. I want to stay sober and sane.

I want to do something positive and stand for something instead of being angry and resenting and even being afraid.

I'm past having my ears tickled and my anger aroused by talkers from Bill O'Reilly to Sean Hannity and others like even Rush Limbaugh who tells us to stay loyal to the GOP of his father and grandfather.

I'm not ready to start liking the liberals and the lefties, its just that I need to start a new track in opposing them.

So that's why I'm very open to the notion of a new political party of principle.....heck lets call it the "Liberty Party" as an example.

A party of for and by the people, not the big money that wants these band aids to keep the debt growing by trillions more in the years ahead.

A PARTY THAT WANTS GOVERNMENT DOWNSIZED FOR REAL. I'm past all the symbolic gimmicks politicians and groups dream up to keep us conservative slaves on the Republican plantation.

Back in the George W. Bush presidency, Rush Limbaugh had an on-air conversation with then White House aide and longtime GOP insider Ed Gillespie.

It went like this.

Rush talked about cutting the size of government and eliminating departments like education, energy etc. etc. Then Gillespie said: "That's not going to happen."

Well, its time for that to happen. Way past time for that to happen and more.

The vast majority of Republicans we have helped elect over the years have no desire to do that or anything else to immediately and quickly balance this nation's budget before it is too late.

A "Liberty Party" that brings Americans together on the platform of less government, less spending and a balanced budget immediately before it is too late is something I can support honestly and sincerely.

I'm tired of living in my anger resentment and fear aroused by talking heads on radio and television from elected officals to show hosts.

And to what end. A country that moves continuously to the Left and will collapse from an unsustainable debt in the future.

I know I can do better than I have in the past. I pray many of you will face your demons of addiction as I have and others like Glenn Beck have.

Lets simply tell our neighbors this spending spree cannot continue in a sincere and humble tone without being tied to an edifice that sustains the unsustainable system in Washington.

God Give Us Liberty and God Bless America.

The big political parties in Europe are already cutting deals over and over again that do not balance budgets, raise taxes and even cut pensions like Greece.

This “Taxpayer Protection Act” has the smell of European style austerity measures where the party to the “Left” and the party to the “Right” get ideas from their lists into the agenda.

But the problems of debt and spending are not solved by them like it is in Greece and other European nations. They are kicked onto the next “crisis.”
