IT'S OFFICIAL: HOUSE PASSES FISCAL CLIFF BILL
Business Insider ^ | 01/01/2013 | Joe Weisenthal and Grace Wyler

Posted on 01/01/2013 8:07:58 PM PST by SeekAndFind

After a long day of fiscal cliff chaos, the House will finally hold a vote tonight on the fiscal cliff bill passed by the Senate early Tuesday.

The decision to hold an up-down vote virtually guarantees passage of the bill, which would extend the Bush tax hikes for households earning under $450,000. that the bill will pass.

For most of the day, House Republicans have said that they could not support the bill without spending cuts, but by Tuesday night it was clear that GOP leaders could not come up with the votes to pass an amendment to add those cuts.

The House Rules Committee announced that there will be a vote on the unamended Senate bill in the 9 p.m. hour. Check out all of the days developments below.

I may go radical— Libertarian blend. Conservative right is wearing out our volunteer army with the traditional war hawk, stars and stripes meme. I’m tired of that.

Hey, everyone, READ what Norquist had to say...he makes sense...battles need to be fought in increments...according to Norquist, the Bush tax cuts are intact in this deal, and for the next four years it will be our job to deal with spending cuts...we must fight the fight in increments.

I need to know full details of what was voted for, as do we all.

I’ve been sporting a Ryan 2012 bumper sticker on my car for several months now. It will be permanently off my car by morning. What in the hell are these people thinking? Are they really that clueless?

No doubt a lot of Rove type Pacs loved this bill.
The money changers will get their regular cut.
However, there are a lot of conservative Superpacs, as well.

There has to some sort of hybrid party that embraces the religious folk and the libertarians focusing on balanced budgets and smaller government, supporting the Constitution with the First and Second Amendments in the lead.

I say the First because the religious folk are being imtimidated like Chick Fil A’s president was over his opposition to gay marriage.

And the Second should be obvious to anyone out there.

I’m not a big Second Amendment guy (not my big issue), but we need to remember Pastor Niemoller’s Nazi Germany experience....”first they came for.........but I didn’t ......because I wasn’t.......”

Dump the GOP like a bag of week old donuts. No replys, no nothing. No existence. The Dems own it, the GOP is dead. Move On

But there are ZERO spending cuts in this bill!

There's plenty of pork though. This bill actually INCREASES the debt, even with the tax increases.

“So basically in 2014 the Democrats will run on the Repubicans raising taxes.

Sweet! /sarc”

Hey, maybe we’ll win! The American majority seem to love the tax and spend socialists.

A pyrrhic victory, though.

I assume they raised the debt limit?

Not yet. That will be Obama's encore mid-February. The Republican House will pass that bill as well.

“SO HOW MANY OF YOU FOLKS ARE GOING TO REMAIN REPUBLICANS?”

I am. I believe in work from within. I agree with virtually 100% of the platform. All my favorite politicians, past and present, are/were Republicans.

All they did is delay the inevitable, and make the inevitable all that much worse.

But hey, screw our grandkids, let’s party!

“It amazes me that McConnell was able to make middle class tax rates PERMANENT when the republicans could not do it when they held all 3 branches during Bush-43.”

Excellent point, while we (rightly) decry this whole mess, I ultimately blame the American voter. They voted for socialism, not one but twice.

We should have Romney preparing for inauguration and a lame duck, soon to be R Senate right now. But no, the majority voter wanted more of this garbage.

I am glad we pulled something out of the rubble. Might as well recognize it.

I read where Toomey voted for without reading it

Nobody read it. The only ones who knew what was in it were the Democrats who drafted it. This was a Democrat bill loaded with pork, and the GOP House just gave sanction to it. Democrats will now enjoy all the benefits including taking credit for making the tax rates permanent - something the Republicans couldn't get done for a decade. And Republicans will take all the blame when things go sour. I now understand fully why they call it the 'Stupid Party'.

” as he says now. “

Wasn’t it his one son who said that? I think Romney campaigned for eight years. I think he wanted to win.

Yep. The tax increases are bad enough but the pork laden spending is the coup de grace.

The GOP has shown they plan on using the kenyan as cover to continue the outrageous deficit spending.

The scary thing this is just the opening act and the GOP is totally cowed. BOHICA.
