Newspaper That Published Gun-Owner Addresses Gets Its Staff's Info Outed
Atlantic Wire via Yahoo! News ^ | 12/27/12 | J.K. Trotter

Yesterday we told you about the interactive map of local gun owners published by the Journal-News, a newspaper serving the Westchester and Rockland counties of New York, and the outcry it immediately drew. Turns out the stunt was so unpopular — with gun owners and privacy advocates alike — that a blogger named Christopher Fountain took it upon himself to dig up and organize the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the Journal-News staff, starting with editor Cyndee Royle. The post is called "Keep up the heat" and encourages readers to pester the paper and prevent them from...report[ing] gun-owner addresses.

As long as they were keeping it to letters to the editor(s), the staff list was, at first, small potatoes as far as payback goes: the allure of the paper's original map of gun owners was the ability to see who, and how many people, owned a gun near a specific address — the paper's stunt was a map, not just a (sparsely populated) list of names. But overnight a different retaliatory blogger decided to map the newspaper staff addresses culled thus far (from Google and elsewhere). Here's what Robert Cox, of Talk of the Sound, came up with:

-snip-

It's an open question whether the retribution is misplaced. In a morning interview with CNN, Fountain said he was angered by calls from victims of domestic abuse with gun permits who were worried their whereabouts had been inadvertently revealed. And, more philosophically: "In the aftermath of Newtown, it was obviously one tragedy, but somehow they were conflating legal gun owners with some crazed tormented devil up in Newtown and putting the two together."

As much as the staff of the Journal-News may wish it, this story is not going to go away.

I love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning. It smells like...victory!

I'm guessing the newsrag staff is unhappy. I predict some serious whining when their names and addresses are outed.

They will say that their staff should no be outed. They have the right to their privacy and not have their names posted. They say that they can out who ever they want but they should hide behind the wall of journalism.

If I were an American gun owner, I would send to, each and every person in the newspaper, a polite, but firm, letter to their house explaining why it was such a poor decision to publicly list the addresses of all the gun owners.

I think, if each person in that newspaper were to receive a thousand personal letters, it would become clear to them why it was such a poor decision.

The next step would be to overlay the gun owner’s homes with crime statistics.

What an appalling mess! That newspaper published the names and addresses of women who were living apart from abusive husbands and boyfriends. And they think gun owners are insane??

Write their spouses to inform about sexual affairs, etc.

I’ve felt this is the best response. Let those who ‘out’ be ‘outed’. I’m sure it feels unsettling not knowing if a ‘crazy’ person is going to look you up.

What would that have to do with gun ownership?

Or the aids test that came back as unsure on weather it was positive or negative.

Yes. And it would be interesting to see an overlay of crime statistics for before the map was published and afterwards - just to see if the knowledge of the presence of guns had any effect on who the perps decided to victimize.

It was stupid of this paper to publish this map, but it creates an experiment that would be unethical if done by scientists but may as well be capitalized on now that the journos already threw ethics out the window.

OK
Write their spouses to inform about sexual affairs, at the gun range’

Notice I didnn’t suggest sending them exotic porn subscriptions, or turning them in to the IRS

Oh, I emailed every last one of those world class tools. I was not civil, I was not polite, I mocked their appearances, their ideology and their fitness to work for a news organization!

Alinsky is alive today, though now from the right! Hehehehehehehehe.

The government has a weapon against every person now, in the form of Obamacare medical records.

And if anybody doesn’t think the government would use records for manipulative purposes, read up about the “Night of the Long Knives”-type military purge. I can’t remember the guy’s name, but he was exposed BY THE GOVERNMENT for lurid but legal sexual activity. The government went snooping in his emails, found no crimes, but used his perfectly-legal communications to get rid of him.

That’s what these thugs do. The same people who sanctimoniously hide behind “right to privacy” to keep Obama’s legally-acknowledged-as-forged documents out of the public eye have no qualms about snooping through EVERY ONE OF US’s emails looking for dirt to use on us if we don’t bow sufficiently low to “service” them.

That’s where we’re at. Even the facade of lawfulness is being abandoned.

Hell, I'd be thanking the Newspaper and its staff for creating a target rich environment, and end with a warning that any person on my property committing or attempting to commit a felony, or violating the Constitution, would be dealt with as necessitated by the circumstances, including the use of deadly force if required.

Are you thinking of Jack Ryan whose sealed divorce records suddenly became unsealed when he was running against Obama for the senate?
