Whiny Atheists Protest Charlie Brown Christmas Special
Townhall.com ^ | November 29, 2012 | Doug Giles

The atheists I grew up with in Texas were a tad bit pluckier than today’s lardy hagfish atheists who file lawsuits every winter when they see a child wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Yep, the anti-theists I used to hang out with in the Lone Star state were rugged individualists who were so busy milking this existence that they didn’t have time to bleat like a stuck sheep because a plastic baby Jesus statue endangered their delicate beliefs.

My other non-believing buddies who weren’t the robust Hemingway types were usually heady stoners who were into physics, Pink Floyd and Frisbee and were completely comfortable around people of faith versus today’s reflexively irate, touchy atheists who pop a blood vein in their forehead if they accidentally hear “Silent Night” playing at Macy’s.

For God’s sake atheists, übermensch up why don’t you?

The latest hissy fit thrown by the anti-theist this Christmas is over Charlie Brown. Yep, according to Fox News “Charlie Brown is in the middle of a contentious religious fight. A group of parents are fighting an Arkansas elementary school over a field trip to see a stage production of ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ at a church. Fox News religion contributor Father Jonathan Morris weighed in on the controversy today on Fox and Friends. Father Morris asked, “Who would be afraid of their children going to watch a classic Charlie Brown story like this?” He said, “The fact that we have the right to free speech for all means that there’s going to be also an opportunity and a probability that there will also be people who will do stupid, ignorant and totally out of line things like protesting the fact that Charlie Brown is going to be presented, and his Christmas story presented to kids.”

According to the 21st century metrosexual atheist motif, anything that offends the pouty atheist should now be banned. That makes me scratch my head because I thought the atheists were the tough-minded ones who could stare death in the face and mock God and His dictates, but now a silicone statue of Yeshua in diapers puts them in a tailspin. Hello, sweetie.

FYI to the spindly atheists: You’ve got your work cut out for you if you want to scrub culture of its Christian influence because we have rubber stamped this planet via the arts and human expression for many, many moons. Have you ever heard of Bach, van Eyck, Vermeer, Handel, Mendelssohn, Haydn and a writer named Billy Shakespeare? What about the artists of the early Italian Renaissance or the tens of thousands of other artists, writers and composers throughout history who were either die-hard believers or at least worked within the framework of a Christian worldview? Are you going to take a belt sander to their works because they remind you of Hey-Soos?

You know who did atheism right? The late Christopher Hitchens. He didn’t whine or sue schools for singing “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful.” What did he do? He vigorously argued his point of view, engaged the brethren without being a shrill priss and left it to the audience to decide what path they were going to take, and I dig that kind of robust character. That said, as you can tell, I have no respect for atheists who want to ban Christian symbolism because they don’t happen to buy it.

Merry Christmas.

Oh my, a church. Can’t visit that on the pubskewl dime.

The point is to press the anti-faith dogma, no matter how asinine the attempt looks. Before I was a Christian, I gladly watched Charlie Brown Christmas specials on TV without fretting that someone was trying to ram Christianity down my throat.

I was pleasantly surprised that ABC even aired this pro-Christmas special.

Leftists dont believe in live and let live, or tolerance of those who disagree with them.

“Leftists dont believe in live and let live, or tolerance of those who disagree with them.”

They are a lot like Muslims in that.

Leftists dont believe in live and let live, or tolerance of those who disagree with them.

well, they tried that for a season in preparation, so now, from the article...

its not God they even really fear, *if* theyre truly atheists...its US and our resistance to their power plans that keep em up at night [and sunday] plottin and plannin...

they hate us, and we are mortal enemies to them...so fair enuff, i simply return the favor and treat them as an enemy as well...

Merry CHRISTmas all...Luke 22:36

If I recall correctly ABC has always aired aired the Christmas Special. I could be wrong though, it’s been ages since I watched it

I saw a Christmas documentary on the History Channel this week that discussed that even then, CBS? found the scripture to be controversial at the time and wanted it removed. Charles Shulz said it stays or the whole project is a "no go".

Just goes to show how much downhill our leaders in entertainment. 50 years ago we had Shulz, John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart. Now we get Snoop Dog, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt. The entertainment industry's hard left turn is taking us to ruin.

I love the speach that Linus gives to tell what Christmas is all about.

I also love the irony of Sally wanting “just send tens and twenties” and “I only want what I have coming to me. I only want my fair share.” I did not realize that Sally was a socialist until last night. ARRGH

Rest in Peace, Charles Schultz

I absolutely love this Christmas cartoon. It first came out when I was very young and I watched it every Christmas growing up.

Just the music and the voices in bring back childhood memories and emotions about those Christmases.

And it was made in the Jonny Quest days, when cartoons were hand drawn by artists and are now a lost art.

We must NOT accomodate everyone. Their logic is that we must accomodate every subtle difference.

The opposite view says that ignoring is not discriminating. An alternate view is an alternate view.

What was the logic for keeping the Libertarian and Constitution parties out of the debates? Political sentiments are as easily strongly held and emotionally laden as are religious views....and they are also protected by the Constitution.

What was the answer? Low adherence means no publicity.

Watched it for the zillionth time again last night also and was too struck by Sally's comments. Ahead of her time. So much brilliance packed into 30 minutes. What expressions Charles Shultz could create with the simplest of drawings. One of my favorite lines is Charlie Brown:

“Don't you know a sarcasm when you hear it?”

Actually, CBS were the ones who originally aired it in 1965. The network execs at CBS thought it’d be a flop, and even the producers of the show (Lee Mendelson & Bill Melendez) thought it was going to destroy the character’s image.

We all know what happened next.

Oh...ABC scored the rights to the show in 2001.
