Santorum: 'I'm open' to 2016 bid
CNN ^

(CNN) - Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum hinted Monday he may see another presidential run in his future.

"I'm open to that possibility," the Republican said when asked on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" about a 2016 White House bid.

"But we're a long way..." he added, pausing, then continuing, "I'm focused right now on trying to stay involved in the fray and make sure that we do the right thing up on Capitol Hill right now."

Santorum proved a tough opponent to Mitt Romney during the Republican presidential primary, ultimately forcing the contest to run as late as April when Santorum dropped his bid and paved the way for Romney to clinch the nomination.

Agreed. He looks and sounds weak and whiny. And, like Bachmann, he joined in the “vulture capitalist” smearing of Romney. I hope he gets more in touch with reality before 2016.

Oh, great. Just what we need—someone who doesn’t have more charisma than Santorum.

A leader like Palin could turn out us Americans as we did in Louisiana at 70% in 2012.

I believe you, and I believe Sarah.

Here is video of Senator Santorum on stage with Arlen Specter, as Specter is announcing his Presidential run, based on making the GOP a pro-abortion party, Rick Santorum endorsed him, and campaigned for him and his platform.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/64281-1

Transcript Highlights:
Santorum is seen nodding and applauding at Specter’s side:

3:46 mark: “In 1996, I intend to win the other house — the White House — with ten commitments to America… including a woman’s right to choose…

13:22 mark: “Even though we have this historic opportunity for these achievements, there are those in our party who would lead us down a different path — and squander this unique moment in our nation’s history — by using our political capital — to pursue a radical social agenda — that would end a woman’s right to choose…

13:48 mark: “When Pat Robertson says there is no constitutional doctrine of separation between Church and State, I say he is wrong…

14:31 mark: “When Ralph Reed says a pro-choice Republican isn’t qualified to be our President, I say the Republican Party will not be intimidated or blackmailed by those kinds of threats.I, and millions of other pro-choice Republicans, will not be disenfranchised and made second class citizens.

15:33 mark: “… it is not Christian, or religious, or Judeo-Christian to bring God into politics; or to advocate intolerance and promote exclusion.

15:54 mark: “I want to take abortion out of politics. I want to keep the Republican Party focused on the vital economic and foreign policy issues — and leave moral issues such as abortion to the conscience of the individual. I believe abortion is an issue to be decided by women…

16:40 mark: “I pledge to lead the fight to strip the strident anti-choice language from the Republican National platform…”

Out here in the real word living in a swing state, and actually talking to independents, and a lot of people that mostly vote Republican - people literally burst out laughing at the idea of her running for President.

I just love posts like yours. When people make claims like yours, the truth always turns out to be something quite a bit less impressive, like the guy's mother-in-law, his wife, and a few old farts at the local Lions Club, who don't like Palin.

The day after the 2012 election, Greta VanSusteren had a poll up on her Fox News blog which asked the question: "Now that Obama has won re-election, who do you feel is the leader of the Republican party?"

Perhaps a dozen high profile, nationally known Republican figures were named, and Sarah Palin was voted #1 with over 40% of the vote.

How's that for "general contempt"?

Santorum is a mixed bag on his pro-life claims and is very similar to Romney in many ways, he switched to pro-life to run for office, he was anti-Reagan and mocked Reagan conservatives.

Rick Santorum was pro-abortion until 1990, and first ran as a “Progressive Conservative”, and that is what he had printed into his campaign materials.

Santorum supported rabidly pro-abortion, Arlen Specter for President in 1996

Here is who Santorum wanted for President, (and years later saved him in a Senate race).

“For Specter, who later became a Democrat, his pro-abortion-rights position was a centerpiece of his campaign. Specter believed that anti-abortion activists were a “fringe” group hijacking the Republican party.

With the eternal ‘war on women’ and dopey fluke being floated for person of the year or some garbage like that, Santorum would sink like a rock.

That fake issue of taking away this and that from women, did sell to the millions of dense uniformed women, as well as millions of young women.

The left would destroy him, no doubt.

Dittos to that. You are just never gonna get thru to these Palin haters tho Windy. It is like talking to a wall. I’m not sure about ‘swing state’s’ voters as such but up here in the boonies/mountains of the American Redoubt, Sarah Palin is very respected and the hope is she runs in 2016.

I sense that we are going to have Jeb Bush, another Bush who’s afraid to fight, and a one-world order guy at that.

Thanks to conservatives, who have already made up their minds, w/o bothering to search for the facts. It’s frustrating for conservatives, who aren’t afraid to roll up our sleeves, and do a little research.

The GOP establishment will win again. Hope I’m wrong.

“little sweater “

Rather than the “sweater” mantra, you need to research, RESEARCH. That’s what Mark Levin did, and he was for Santorum.

Santorum switched to becoming a solid/enthusiastic, Romney man in 2008 and you know Romney has always been pro-abortion, even after claiming to have switched for the 2008 campaign, Romney returned to his pro-choice position, and said that he did not accept the party’s pro-life platform, that was in August, after winning the nomination.

Something that people don’t know, is that Santorum has always been dedicated to advancing Specter, supporting Specter, even in 2010.

“”Republican Presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has taken heat from Presidential rivals for his 2004 endorsement of Arlen Specter over the more conservative Pat Toomey in the Republican Presidential primary. Santorum has responded that his endorsement was based upon both the electability of Specter in the general election and a promise from the Republican turned Democrat to support Bush judicial nominees.
But 2010 filings to the Federal Election Commission filings show the former Santorum was supporting Specter well after 2004.
2009 FEC filings from Rick Santorum’s PAC, America’s Foundation, show that Santorum gave $5000 to his former Senate colleague during the critical tidal wave election for Republicans. The donation was made before Specter switched parties. After the switch, Santorum’s PAC donation was returned by the Specter campaign.””

Same down here in the fertile red plains of North Texas (though we've got our share of Palin hating libs and RINOs).

Rick Santorum walked the walk TWICE!! With his first unborn child, who died soon after birth, and with little Bella!!!

Santorum said Alito would not have been Justice if it weren’t for Spector. Rick Santorum has good instincts.

Alito turned out to be the true Constitutionalist, and not Roberts.

We need new blood. No more running, losing, waiting your turn. We've seen where that leads.

Nobody who ran in 2012 should be considered for 2016.

Santorum always came off as a wimp/weasel to me.
I don't like wimps as leaders.
Would have voted for him had he won the nomination, but would not have liked it.

“If voters start shifting gears and deciding they want ideological consistency, then they’re going to start paying attention to say, Rick Santorum.” Sarah Palin
