McCartney says skip the turkey on Thanksgiving

AFP - Former Beatle Paul McCartney, a long-time vegetarian, has joined a campaign by animal rights group PETA to encourage Americans to celebrate a turkey-free Thanksgiving this week.

The British rock legend, sporting a gray shirt with an "eat no turkey" design, is featured on the website of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"This Thanksgiving, Paul McCartney is urging you to say 'no, thanks' to turkey and 'yes' to a delicious, cruelty-free holiday meal," the group says.

More than 45 million turkeys will make their way onto American dinner tables on Thursday, and another 22 million are consumed at Christmas, according to PETA.

Each year, US presidents grant a pardon to one or two turkeys -- a tradition that only dates back to president George Bush in 1989, even though Thanksgiving was first celebrated by pilgrims who fled religious persecution in England.

I myself plan on skipping turkey on Thanksgiving day this year. That may surprise some folks, but I’d like to ask each of you to join me. I view it as a matter of health.

Please join me by swearing off on listening to anything McCartney on Thanksgiving day.

I saw Sir Paul in concert about 20 years ago. Great concert but we had to sit through 45 minutes of a PITA lecture first.

Any time I see the word PITA I think of two different acronyms

People Eating Tastey Animals
Pain In The Ass

Interestingly enough BOTH apply to Paul.

I bet that Paul had on leather shoes, belt and a jacket, as well as was driven then in a limo with leather interior.

What will happen to all these feel good vegans when some fruitcake liberal expert proves that vegetables are thinking, feeling organisms? And PETA?, they are responsible for the deaths of more animals than any research facility or all of them combined. Anyone that donates to them are mentally challenged!

Okay, you’re not invited then. There’ll be more room at the table for several wounded Iraqi and Afghanistan hero’s. It’s going to be a great time.

” turkey and a chicken.”

A couple of turkey breastices and a honey-baked ham here. None of which will go to waste...including the ham bone which will eventually wind up doing the backstroke in a pot of navy bean soup.
