Gingrich: GOP needs to be "inclusive"

In the aftermath of Mitt Romney's presidential loss last week, Newt Gingrich is joining the cadre of Republicans calling for the Republican Party to more actively reach out to a more diverse electorate, arguing on Monday that the party needs to become more "inclusive."

"I think we need to be inclusive, and I emphasize the difference between inclusive and outreach," Gingrich said Monday morning in an appearance on ABC's "The View." "Outreach is when five white guys have a meeting and call you. Inclusive is when you're in the meeting. And I think we have to understand to be inclusive."

Gingrich, who was joined by his wife Callista on the show, argued that Republicans had "misunderstood the American people" in 2012, and that the GOP can't just wait until 2016 to try to broaden its reach.

"The Republican doctrine of highly paid consultants spending hundreds of millions of dollars on 30-second ads doesn't build a party," he said. "The Republican Party better not wait until 2016. The Republican Party better rethink in 2013 how we're going to deal with the country's issues and do it in a way that the average American looks up and says, you know, those are folks I'm willing to trust with my future. We lost that."

He added that "there were a whole series of fundamental things that were really wrong" with how the GOP framed the 2012 election, including the fact that the Obama campaign so successfully appealed to non-white voters.

>Tell us, then, who on the campaign trail really did mean everything they said and the experience to do it?

akin and mourdock came close. All they omitted was the promise to build maternity wards to hold the rape victims until they birthed rather than putting them in a holding cell.

People on FR that were punting for Newt...

Where are you now you a-holes? You castigated us for pointing out Newt's "sitting on a bench with Nan" photo-op... You said we were being unreasonable. You said he REALLY WAS a "conservative"...

All of it, utter BS.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I would partially agree.
We need to be the default choice as the best path for prosperity and freedom for non Caucasian US citizens.

Right now they don't see us as that. Simple demographics say that has to change.

“You convert with truth not pandering!”

Well said. But you also alienate with insults. The reality is that conservatives have almost always done a lousy job at articulating the truth. Instead, they/we resort to an “us and them” mentality which serves only to divide, and frankly I think that is all Newt was referring to when he said the word “inclusive.”

Here is the clearest picture of the problem I know of:

It's the Rats that made it about "us and them."

I would have done better. There is this little thing called "principles". I have them...

Newt apparently doesn't.

->>Michael Savage had newt’s number a long time ago.

He plays all over the field. Don't trust him. I would take Newt sitting by nancy anyday vs Romney writing Obamacare and saying he was proud of Romneycare. Duh. So, that's why I supported Newt when he was still in the game. His reforms that he did while Speaker were conservative so this hatred for Newt isn't there for me.

Takes two to tango. Even the word "Rats" gives away your position.

Why should he shut up? He’s right.

Sure, lets just go after the idiots that voted for the one. Then we can have 2 parties of idiots. Shut up Newt.

So do I. He knows they excluded us as they did Sarah, for example. Sowell, AS USUAL, is right on! Thanks for the link, I miss that thread.
