Your suitcase has been tagged and whisked away for a TSA security check before being loaded onto a plane en route to your final destination. How safe are the belongings inside? The TSA has fired nearly 400 employees for allegedly stealing from travelers, and for the first time, the agency is revealing the airports where those fired employees worked.
Newly released figures provided to ABC News by the TSA in response to a Freedom of Information Act request show that, unsurprisingly, many of the country's busiest airports also rank at the top for TSA employees fired for theft.
Sixteen of the top 20 airports for theft firings are also in the top 20 airports in terms of passengers passing through.....

Even before the 911 security increases, I routinely lost items from my checked luggage. I even lost an entire tool bag filled with expensive testers and had tools once.
Calling the airline is futile, they would outright tell you there was little chance of recovering stolen items. I'd say in total, I've lost 3-4 thousand dollars worth of belongings to those thieving SOB's mostly because you can only carry on so much, you are forced to gamble with the rest of it.
We live in Miami. This is well known. I and (especially) my wife NEVER check a bag,,, we travel light.
It’s interesting that when we fly to Norfolk, VA to visit out daughter, or to Mountain Home, ID via Salt Lake City and Boise, we get a bit less paranoid once we are away from here.
(Norfolk and Boise are very nice regional airports BTW.)
I’m surprised that San Antonio isn’t on the list. Between the Mexicans and Holder’s chums, it’s a 5-finger festival.
A lot of these are hubs, where you have to go through to get to somewhere else.
We got ripped off on our way to Europe last year. My husband had a leather jacket stolen and my daughter had a bunch of costume jewelry ripped off. If you check your bags don’t pack any nice shoes or expensive ones like Uggs or designer shoes, they will get ripped off.
This year when we went back to Europe, I had to check my bags because of the length of the stay, but I took nothing expensive. I carry on when possible for sure.
Thanks W for this wonderful legacy.
The TSA wasn’t created to make us “feel safe”. It was created to condition us to being tyrannized, to accept tyranny and the theft of our liberty. Connect the dots.
Fly with guns! Seriously. Or even BB guns, starter pistols, flare guns... Any of these items, properly packed, means that you can padlock your luggage with non-TSA locks and fly your valuable stuff with much less risk of it being stolen. Lots of info on the web about how to do this, but it's pretty straight forward:
Get a lockable trunk; unload the dangerous stuff; declare the weapons at check-in and fill-out the orange card the agent will provide you; Airline agent may inspect the firearm or send you to a designated TSA screening, after which you get to put your own lock on and no one is allowed to open it unless you are present :-)
(Sorry for the late reply - I've been traveling, with tools, equipment, and guns ;-)
