I hope he goes to jail and ends up with a VERY angry vet (sadly, it happens) as a bunkie.

To berate one our heroes is lower than low.

That debt collector should go after all the civilians who have faked a disability and are living off it.

All that you say is true. You got a beef with the vet, you go to court or do some other legal things— verbal assault is not called for. I do wonder about the loan, however. I don’t care if you’re Chesty Puller, if you take a loan you should pay it back, especially if you are on 100% disability, and therefore have cash coming in. Did he take the loan before or after the disability declaration, I wonder.

You bet! We all know that veterans who fought and died are not deserving. It is the Obama Phone crowd that deserves even more!

The Community Organizer agrees.

A lot of slimy ex-cons in the debt collection business. Also in roofing.

Don’t make me get in my car and drive up there. I’m 6 feet tall and 300 lbs. Let’s see some pencil-necked bill collector get in my face. This makes me sick. Why isn’t the veteran receiving VA disability, I wonder? Or maybe he is and the reporter is confused.

The couple is now seeking compensation for actual damages, statutory damages, and punitive damages for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), privacy invasion, malicious infliction of emotional distress and conversion.
The FDCPA considers it abusive for a debt collector to make empty threats, misrepresent the legal status of a debt, or use obscene of profane language.

This crap is illegal, and I hope the vet OWNS these scumbags.

I’m not a veteran, but that bill collector is lucky I wasn’t standing there. He might be three feet taller than me, and outweigh me by 200 pounds, but believe you me, he would have remembered it.

On average, debt collectors make 20 cents for every dollar recouped. At this rate, the Colliers’ debt would be worth $1,200 to Chargo.

I'm a debt collector, and I don't receive even half of that. Although I make a living, I guess I have worked for the wrong agency all these years.

If the harassment victim has this on tape, he won't need to worry about paying this bill. His attorney should be able to have the collection company pay it for him.

My company takes violations of the FDCPA seriously. 100% of my conversations are taped. If anyone complains about anything I do, my supervisor must first listen to the call in question.

If a complaint leads to a discovery of a violation of the FDCPA, A) My company will pay debts and fines and lawyers fees, and B) I will be fired.

No licensed debt collector I know would do what was described here. This isn't to say it didn't happen. The thing of it is, is most debt collectors I know behave professionally and take the job seriously.

There isn't a reason to treat people this way because we have tools available to help those that are caught between a rock and a hard place yet want to try to salvage the situation.

So it’s illegal, there are any number of FReepers who will be along in a shortly to explain to you that the illegality of something has nothing to do with debit collecting.

Don’t worry. In a few more years, under obamacare, future vets like this one will be declared too damaged to keep alive.

This Faker isn’t the only US military veteran living off Social Security while the rest of us honest Americans work. As paid Mercenaries they Volunteer for the military because they’re too stupid to go to college and too lazy to get real jobs. Working for the military they learn theretofore unknown skills like basic hygiene, how to make their own beds and polish their shoes. Once discharged they get free education, affirmative-action in hiring and promotion for civilian jobs, free lifetime healthcare at the VA and a host of other benefits. Once civilians, the many that are criminals, drug addicts and drunks now have the lifetime excuse — “I was traumatized in the service”. We need to bring back the draft and eliminate all exemptions so that the military better reflects the regular society and is not comprised so disproportionate of society’s dregs.

The debt collector is right. American wars help no one and soldiers are criminals...

There are a whole lot of people out there our society would be a lot better without. And I’m not referring to our ex-military members.

There are tens of millions of people who haven’t done squat in life who are pulling in government program on top of government program. My take is the animals attacking the ex-military couldn’t care less about them.
