Andy Williams, whose corn-fed good looks, easygoing charm and smooth rendition of "Moon River" propelled him to the heights of music stardom in the early '60s, died Tuesday at his home in Branson, Mo., following a battle with bladder cancer, his family announced.

He was 84, and 2012 had marked his 75th year in showbiz. Williams is survived by his wife Debbie and his three children, Robert, Noelle and Christian.

Oh, dear - another one departs.

Thank you, Andy, for some very pleasant and comforting tunes; may you enjoy the singing of the Celestial Choir.

R.I.P.

Oh good, I was sitting here wondering why there was only one thread about Andy Williams dying. More threads, please!

Andy Williams was an inspiration to me as a singer and a human being. His clear, natural tenor and easy-going charm draw fans from all over the globe. The zenith of his career was "The Andy Williams Show" on CBS that ran from 1962 to 1971.

The Andy Williams Moon River Theater in Branson, MO is one of the most popular venues in that city of entertainment.

His passing marks the end of an era. He was the last of the crooners whose ranks went from Rudy Vallee to Bing Crosby to Frank Sinatra to Dean Martin to Perry Como and has now come to an end.

Andy's straight ahead, persuasive singing simply cannot be heard anymore. His death coincides with the passing of a more sincere and genteel time in America.

Goodbye, Andy. May each day of the week be a good day. May the Lord always watch over you.

He could have an interesting conversation with Spider Sabitch now.

One of the conservatives in the entertainment business, too.

It's interesting that Andy Williams' best-known song is "Moon River" and not one of his long string of chart hits. His version never charted, but he used it as his theme song, and it appeared on several long-playing records.

My favorite tunes by Williams are Are You Sincere? (1958) and Lonely Street (1959).
