Antony Brevard and max hastings in their two recent histories of WW2 put the myth of Wehrmacht innocence in the grave. The responsibility went from the lowest landser to the highest divisional and army commanders. One thing is true. beyond the Holocaust, if you were alive and living between the Oder and the Urals from 1941-45 you were in Hell.
I’m about 2/3rds of the way through Antony Brevard’s book. Fascinating, disturbing, and well written.
