A Christian-owned chain of hobby shops is facing a bitter backlash after suing the Obama administration over new requirements to provide insured employees with contraceptive and abortion coverage.
Oklahoma-based Hobby Lobby filed the suit Sept. 12 in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City, alleging that the ObamaCare mandate violates the religious beliefs of the company's owners. The suit followed similar suits by Catholic colleges and a Denver-based company whose owners also objected to the mandate on religious grounds. While a judge has not yet ruled on Hobby Lobby's suit, a Facebook page calling for a boycott of the company, which operates 500 stores in 41 states, has appeared online, and several other forums have featured posts urging customers to steer clear of Hobby Lobby.
Im boycotting Hobby Lobby! reads the heading of one posting on image posting site Flickr. Even if you're pro-life this kind of action stinks to high heaven! If things like this can be allowed then what's next?!, the user added.
Others have taken to social media to protest against Hobby Lobby, with a Boycott Hobby Lobby page on Facebook.

Hobby Lobby owner David Green is a devout Baptist who owns one of the world's largest collections of Biblical artifacts. The Barret Fund for Religious Liberty, which represents Green in his suit, argued that compliance with the offending portion of the health care law that the nature of their suit is would force religiously-motivated business owners like plaintiffs to violate their faith under the threats of millions of dollars in fines.

Might be a smear. Might not be. But if it’s not TRUE, why didn’t the company just deny the story?
I believe he’s working on one. Had a public viewing in Atlanta for a few months recently.
...wonder why those opposed to Hobby Lobby don’t get the same anger over companies and unions asking (and being granted) waivers from Obamacare.
I suddenly feel the need for a new craft project coming on.....
Darn, wish I had seen this earlier today. I just went to the art supply store! I will remember.
Well, Chick-Fil-A appears to be remaining ambiguous on the topic of whether their donations will go to organizations who have “political causes.” People found out who they were donating to before, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if they stopped donating to groups like Family Research Council on future disclosures.
I suspect they are just trying to not fan the flames by making the statement they made on their web site.
In these days when a person can be blamed for causing deaths of ambassadors by the hands of terrorists, they are wise to just make a statement like that and be quiet.
NOT!!!

Re: A Message from Kalen Holmes: Starbucks Supports Marriage EqualityDear partners,
Starbucks is proud to join other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples. Starbucks strives to create a company culture that puts our partners first, and our company has a lengthy history of leading and supporting policies that promote equality and inclusion.
Well maybe they sell shadow boxes for folded flags. I need to get one for stowing and preserving my Dad’s flag. I’ll swing by there this payday.
I had never heard of Hobby Lobby, but they just got another customer. I am not broke by Christmas, that may be a great place to shop for gifts over the net.
I live on the Eastern Shore, too. Yeah, I wish they had a Hobby Lobby nearby! I live in Rockville during the week, and they do have one in Laurel.
I went to their online store, and, unfortunately, I did not see anything there that I could use, as I just don’t do crafts anymore. Lots of girl crafts.
Did not seem like there was anything that would interest the guys either. Not the kind of hobby shop I remember my brothers going to when I was a little girl. I was hoping to buy something for my son to work on with his stepson, but I did not see any model cars, planes, etc.
Several places in town sell stuff I buy for my sometimes profitable hobby, but from now on Hobby Lobby gets my business for those things.
I buy my additions to the Christmas tree there every year (3 cats breakage happens). They have a large selection of ornaments from the 6 in a box to the individual at good prices. Also a nice selection of learning “toys” for kids including the whole Smithsonian line.
Mrs WBill and I hit them every year, about this time. They flip over their inventory in preparation for year-end and have great closeouts on the toys. It's great for XMas shopping.
We didn't have much luck this year, but in years past, Santa has purchased almost everything from Hobby Lobby, at a 50% discount. :-)
See my post #76. Closeout stuff, I'm sure, varies from store to store.
” at a 50% discount.”
Thanks.... you have me even more motivated. Several of my creative grandkids are very much into art. I doubt that there is anything I could buy from their stores that they wouldn’t like and enjoy.
Of course, I’ll get the product of their labor as gifts to me later in the year. LOL
Like I said, this year, we didn't have much luck, just found a couple of little stocking stuffers. But last year, darn near everything came from there. So, it's hit or miss, likely depends on the store. Good luck.
Thanks Bill... My shopping will be restricted to the internet, because there aren’t any Hobby Lobby stores near me. Heck, I had never heard of them before this thread.
