Monday, September 17, 2012 | Kristinn

Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.

The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.

Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."

I’d say that the Drive-Bys are in a bit of a bind...report what Mitt said about govt. dependency vs. free enterprise or just brush it under the rug. So let them release the video...the average American who works every day to put food on the table will not be thrilled about all freeloaders in this country.

Hey, isn’t _Mother Jones_ a commie rag or something? It’s surprising that it’s pushing for food stamp recipients against its rich government union constituent readers. Anyway, the increasing pile of debt has to go somewhere. Enjoy.

What Romney needs to do is what Reagan did, take his message to the American people.

Kind of hard to do without the media broadcasting your message.

“And maybe you could hike up your big girl panties and stop being a toadie for Mitt and force him to be a better candidate.

Instead, you’re gonna cheerfully whip that nag till it runs into the dirt.”

Oh please. If anyone should be checking their girly underwear it’s those morons that are tying to spin that he is talking about people in the military, military retirees or people collecting the SS money they paid in.

Be outraged that anyone has to pay federal personal income taxes. it's a failed federal program ~ a broken Republican campaign promise in fact. They said it would only apply to 1 or 2%. Ronald Reagan worked hard to remove low income people from its grasp.

So, where did all you Democrats come from so late in the game?

So glad to hear that Romney did not back down. For once in like, ever..Romney sounded like an actual Conservative. Romney has to do what Reagan did, take his message to the people. If Romney can do that at the debate he wins..no matter how the media will say that Obama won we will all know that Romney won it. What Romney did was brilliant, make this about Capitalism Vs Communism. There are TOO Many people in this country who actually want Communism..there once was a time where a person did not want to admit they were a Communist, now they say it without reservation, they are proud of it

He said basically that the way he put it was inartful, but that it is the same thing he always says...that you have to choose between a government centered society or a free enterprise society where you’re free to pursue your dreams. He is not backing down but he sounds defensive.

Press is making a big mistake giving him all this airtime. He sounds very reasonable. and not like an evil capitalist at all.

But this is all happening at 10:30 Eastern. How many people are really watching this live, compared to how many will see the cutdown/edited version that will be played over and over and over by the MSM during the next couple news cycles?

Or are old or disabled, vets, etc. Careful. He is correct but let’s target those in the 47% that are just unwilling to work not unable. Most of ‘em I suppose. All of the occupiers for sure.

actually, those on SS and Medicare get back every penny they paid in -— in a few very short years.

I understand your point, in that Medicare and Social Security are mandated programs, but don't kid yourself.

Medicare and Social Security are both ponzi schemes.

There are no “trust funds” -— the money has been spent. It is impossible for the money not to be spent. No entity can “invest” in its own paper. Current contributions from current workers pay 100% of current benefits, well almost, the General Fund now picks up the difference.

Honey, he’s the candidate we’ve got...let’s support him and talk and think positive...or do you prefer the alternative?

You must mistake me for being a fellow plantation dweller. Sorry, I climbed that fence a long time ago.

I have never seen in my life the media SO in the tank for a candidate..never in my life.

If Carter had this kind of media support, he would have clobbered Reagan in 1980.

I dont remember how things were with the media when Reagan ran for President(Too darn young to remember) your right about the media. Never in my lifetime do I remember the media being THIS invested in a candidate winning, and its dangerous. The job of the media is to report the news, with this media their job is to make sure Obama is protected, no matter what and THAT is scary.
Romney can speak to the American people, relay his message during the debates. He can tell the American people what he will do and how he will do it. There is no way the media can take that away from him. Sure they will smear him but if he just acts calm, cool, and collective and speak from the heart he will be fine

I think they put this out now because Obama was starting to get killed on the Middle East demonstrations.

noob ~ the issue is the federal personal income tax. it should have never been adopted but it was, and folks were sold the idea that it would only apply to the richest of the rich (Top 1 or 2%) ~ the claim that folks aren't paying taxes arises out of a misconstruction of what was actually found ~ the question involved ONLY the federal personal income tax! There are a gazillion other taxes in this country applied to everything including the diabetes tabs a few of us here use to see whether we should live or die today.

The fact you people can avert your eyes from the fact that we tax everything that moves, walks or talks and focus on the fact people with low or no income tax manage to not be taxed by the federal personal income tax proves this nation has gone mad!

On a side note, did anyone else notice anything different about his appearance. Something is different..His teeth? Maybe it’s my imagination.

Oh yes, I know, but I get very upset when people accuse seniors of being a burden because they’re getting SS. Not saying you said that. On another thread, someone said that it was the “oldsters” who are going to drag the nation down economically beause they’re taking from the government. A statement like that takes a lot of gall. Yes, the thing is going to collapse, but I take umbrage when folks who suggest that people who have had their money snatched from them all their working lives don’t deserve to get at least some of it back when they retire. Inidentally, I’m not of retirement age, so I’m not being personally affronted by the argument.
