President Obama's Goals for America
Tonight President Obama will ask the country to rally around a set of goals on manufacturing, energy, education, national security, and the deficit a real, achievable plan that will create jobs, expand opportunity, and ensure an economy built to last.
Manufacturing
- Create one million new manufacturing jobs by the end of 2016
- Double exports by the end of 2014
Energy
- Cut net oil imports in half by 2020
- Support 600,000 natural gas jobs by the end of the decade
Education
- Cut the growth of college tuition in half over the next 10 years
- Recruit 100,000 math and science teachers over the next 10 years
- Train two million workers for real jobs at community colleges
National Security
- Invest in the economy with the money we're no longer spending on war
Deficit
- Reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion over the next decade

He drove the deficit up over $6 trillion in under 4 years & that is over 1.5 Trillion a year. Now he wants the chance to bring it down by 4 trillion over 10 YEARS!!! That is only 400 million a year average!!
No matter how you do the math, the shortage is 1.1 trillion a year!!
What a guy!!!
Amid all the cheers at the DNC, did anyone wonder exactly: where the one million new manufacturing jobs by the end of 2016 will be (China); the other million or so jobs at community colleges (”undocumented” immigrants); investing in the economy with funds no longer used for war (what economy - we’ll all be wearing burkas); ad nauseum.......
Nothing in the list about helping small business I see.
Actually I think this may just buy him a negative bounce in the polls
I’m sure I just missed it but did he say just how all these wonderful goals would be done. Just some more blue sky mining. The speakers that condemned profits and railed for social just were more honest at least.
Did he get CBO to score it before he presented it?
