You are way out of line comparing Todd Akin to a criminal. Do you have a conscience? Does basic human decency go out the window when it comes to politics?
All I mentioned was that Bob Ney had a staunch conservative voting record. Akin's die-hard fans on FR want to post his conservative voting record endlessly and pretend it's the most important thing on the planet, so I simply cited an example of someone else who has a staunch conservative voting record. I didn't claim the two men had similar ethics, conscience, values, etc.
If you have a problem with me posting a link to Bob Ney's voting record, take it up with Akin's fan club. They're the ones who have proclaimed the only thing that matters in an election is whether a politician votes the way we want.
BillyBoy was not comparing Akin to a criminal. He was trying to point out the obvious to those who refuse to see it. While voting record certainly matters, it is not the only thing that matters.
Some of you believe that there is no one qualified to take Akin’s place to fight the pro-life battle. Akin is doing damage in that battle and is apparently too delusional to recognize it. If Akin’s ego got out of the way, another equally pro-life Republican with solid conservative credentials would beat McCasKILL. That is the prize.
The most insulting thing to hear from Akin is - “it’s not about me.” He is a liar. The price this nation may pay because it is about him is very large indeed.
Depends on what you are talking about. If you are talking about someone theoretically voting on legislation in the Senate, yes. That's not what the subject is. On the subject of being an electable candidate his voting record does not outweigh it when the gaffe is about a subject like rape - to call that "just a gaffe" is not accurate. If he had made a similar gaffe in the logical sense on tax policy, etc. that would have been much easier to recover from - obviously some ridicule and jokes hurled his way, but that would have been it. This gaffe was while talking about rape - which takes it to a whole other level. He has also managed to stall / reverse momentum for every GOP candidate nationwide...that doesn't mean it will be permanent, but we need all the ground we can gain and he created what is no small distraction getting rather late in the game. His overall voting record as far as influencing the political narrative he has created does not come into play...other than helping Democrats link it to his comments to try to say that all those who advocate conservative policies are associated with the gaffe.
This is so devoid of logic that I don’t know quite how to react. So that is my reaction.
What's delusional is Palin thinking a third party candidate could do anything but split the vote and allow McCaskill to win. So we can all disagree on what we think is delusional. Because people disagree, that's usually why we leave elections up to the voters. The only one that can decide if Akin should withdraw is himself, and he's not doing it. So we need to back him and win the seat.
I came up with a solution and actually spoke yesterday with a member of the Republican Central Committee in Missouri. She could not commit to the idea but thought it was interesting.
Would you accept this? Akin make a deal with the 68-member Central Committee that he gets to name his pro-life successor. If the committee agrees that his choice would be someone who could win the race, they make the deal and he bows out a hero instead of being the most hated man in America.
So Akin passes the torch to someone who is equally pro-life, not delusional, not an egomaniac, not someone who thinks it is all about him (or her), and can beat McCasKILL.
There you go. You have your pro-life candidate, something very important to most of us here, someone who takes the issue of being delusional off the table, and someone who wins the seat. Is that an acceptable solution to you?
48% is Akin's threshold for asking a candidate to step down. Yet there he sits stubbornly at 38%. I hope the irony is not lost on Akin's supporters....
Let me make it clear again that I did not want Romney. If he is elected, I will be out in the streets fighting him when he says or does something from the left side.
I don’t have time to go through the entire litany, but the biggest fault in your logic is thinking Romney can be replaced a few days before the GOP convention. A few days before the convention? WTF? Even you, even you can hopefully understand what would happen. The entire GOP would be slaughtered across the country. The party would be in total disarray. Donors would be demanding their money back. New organizations in states and counties take a very long time to create, fund, staff, and prepare the message. People would stay at home, hurting everyone down the line. The party and its new candidate would be a laughingstock.
Unfortunately, you have compared apples to watermelons, even further away from the apples to oranges analogy. Unlike with Romney, just a few days before the national convention, Akin actually can be replaced. He can be replaced with an equally fervent pro-life candidate. Instead of having no money with which to work, another pro-life candidate will have money pouring in. Even from here in California. Yep, I will contribute to his replacement as will conservatives and pro-lifers from across the country. The amount of money raised in the battle to remove McCasKILL would be staggering and unprecedented.
If people in Missouri really care about supporting the pro-life position, they need to wake up and see the political reality. They need someone who can actually defeat the pro-abort. Failure to see that Akin cannot win is thinking with your heart instead of your head. Yes, he won the primary. But that was before he used the words that made him unelectable and gave the RATS an issue they are using across the country. That issue must be diffused before the RAT convention.
Akin is a selfish and arrogant *ss who believes he is the only one who can carry the pro-life banner. The advisers in his echo chamber are his wife and son. That is nuts. It is all about him, and that is sickening. If Missouri is lost and the Senate is lost, he will be the most hated man in America.
I’ll make it succinct. I would like it to happen, but Romney (actually my next to last choice, barely above Ron Paul) cannot be replaced without destroying the party across the country. Akin can be replaced with an equally fervent pro-lifer who will beat McCasKILL.
Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer wants Akin gone while there is still a chance to beat the pro-abort.
It just seems foolish to me that another pro-lifer can beat the pro-abort, the current candidate cannot, and those wanting the pro-abort gone have dug in their heels for someone who is delusional.
