Sarah Palin endorses third-party run if Akin won’t drop out
The Washington Examiner ^ | August 22, 2012 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 08/22/2012 12:08:00 AM PDT by Publius804

Sarah Palin endorsed a third-party candidacy against Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., if he persists in his refusal to drop out of the general election campaign after making startling comments about rape and abortion.

“We’ve got to take back the Senate and Missouri is a must-win state,” Palin told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “The way we do that is to have someone like Sarah Steelman be able to run — even if it’s as a third-party candidate — to be able to run and help us take this back.” Palin endorsed Steelman in the primary, which was regarded as showdown for the privilege of challenging the deeply-unpopular Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.

The former Alaska governor reiterated her support for a third-party run when considering how conservatives should respond if Akin does not drop out before the state prints the ballots for the general election.

“Maybe it is a third-party run of Sarah Steelman — that I could get behind,” she said. “Granted, ‘the status quo has got to go’ [Steelman's campaign motto] would be an odd name for a third party, but we’ll coin it, we’ll adopt it, we’ll run with it if that’s what it takes in order to get a common sense, constitutional, happens-to-be-pro-life woman in Missouri to clean up this mess that has been created and at the same time take back the Senate.”

I agree. Heard him on Hannity, and that’s all it took for me. We’re the good guys. We don’t tolerate this. The other side had thieves and known sex pots still in office. You have this fake INdian running against Scott. OUr side would never tolerate this.

Sorry, but he must go, and go now.

>> Shame this is happening over stupid comments since he is pro life.

I doubt any one of his detractors can form an objective and logical explanation of his remarks on Life. At worst, there’s a paralyzing ambiguity and dependency on a dubious theory that makes it impossible to say he’s “wrong” in his views — at worst, his views are not discernible. At best, he’s arguing for Life in cases where rape is not a factor.

The mob mentality that’s extended from the Left extreme to the Right is insufferable.

I fear that an INCREASED number children will be murdered BECAUSE of Akin and those who supported him than would have been killed if he had just dropped out.. Yes, in God’s eyes, those people are just as responsable as the doctor with the vacuum hose. My hands and conscience are clean. I feel sorry for those unborn who will now have to pay for this damage done by Akin and his blind supporters.
My dear Lord, this is irresponsible. Please clarify yourself as to how someone pro-life could cause MORE murder in the world, by sticking with their Life stance, even under pressure.

I am going to beat this drum until the skin wears out. The true enemy and source in this and other cases is the OPEN PRIMARY process.

When are those states going to wake up and put an end to this utterly stupid way of selecting candidates in a two or three party system?

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF SOMEONE DEALING OUT YOUR HEALTHCARE ACCORDING TO THEIR NEEDS, WHY ARE YOU LETTING THE SAME IDIOTS THAT BROUGHT US THAT DEBACLE CHOOSE YOUR CANDIDATES?

The wrong messenger can kill even the most logical message. This goofball has managed to make a bad messenger look good. I suspect he has uttered this before in the cloak room and McCaskill knew it and had her news toadies ask the question that she knew or hoped would get the response out of him that it did.

Did you ever wonder why she ran the commercials she did knowing some conservatives would vote the way they did combined with an all out effort to have Dems cross over and set this hanging curve ball up?

Note to RNC Platform Committee;

EXERT YOUR PRESSURE TO END OPEN PRIMARIES!

Yes, Sarah is wrong on this strategy. It will only re-elect Mckaskill if she does this. The Republican vote will be split. Bad choice. Akin must get out!

The former Alaska governor should know that third party candidates help the opposition to win. She needs to set her feminism aside and support Akin to ensure he wins the Senate seat.

Sarah carries that ‘Mama Grizzly’ bit too far on some occasions...

Has the RNC ever explained why they think it is a good idea to let Democrats choose Republican candidates? This is a BIG problem...

I imagine open primaries are not good. I’ll go along with you on that. Do you feel Akin is too conservative on the life issue, in fact a bit extreme, and McCaskill is capitalizing on that? Or do you think he is a poor politician (not a conservative) all around? Because there’s nothing really wrong with someone being extreme on pro-Life. Surely our Christ is, correct?

Not anyone. If you ran in a primary and lost, you cannot be a write in. So a write in would have to be a new name. Kit Bond has been mentioned.

But, having endorsed Steelman, she has no influence now Akin.

I’m sure it falls into a states rights issue as voting is a state responsibility, but if they want to remain in good standing with the national party . . . .

It is not whether he is too conservative. It is all about being able to articulate a rational thought and convey it without sounding like a blithering idiot. I’ll use Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz as a prime example. The other failure on his part was if it was a verbal blunder, why was he not able to detect that during the interview and correct it on the spot? He had no idea until the media and blogs went wild and that is why he doubled down on it using other excuses to obfuscate what was in his heart and head which is a far cry from reality.

I mean, really, is this someone you would want representing you? From all accounts, Brunner and Steelman passed the conservative acid test on this issue as well so it is not the issue of who was more conservative, but has everything to do with the stunning stupidity of open primaries.

It is his judgement that is in question and somebody in the Democrat party knew this. Why didn’t someone in the Republican party know this as well?

Yes let’s throw the conservative under the bus but don’t you dare go third party for the liberal President nominee that was chosen. Romney should be destroyed politically not Akin. Definite twilight zone around here. Third Party against Romney should be shouted from the roof top but of course there are too many liberals around here to have that happen.

I don’t know the political landscape of Missouri but I am about to embark on that adventure. Do they have a Republican Governor, and if so, does he/she have the power to appoint a Senate seat left open after a potential victory over McCaskill?

What I am getting to is that here in Florida, Martinez quit with over a year left on his term. The Governor (Crist) appointed his buddy Peppi LeMieux to finish out his term. What if the party did a write in like Bond, Bond wins and shortly thereafter decides to resign for health reasons and the Governor appoints the runner up Brunner?

This may be the only way to salvage the seat. Akin is making life very difficult, he hurts the party and the pro-life cause

I cannot fathom how the GOP, Sarah Palin, the Senator from MA what's his name, that dumb-ass Romney, and seemingly over half the FReepers posting today got their knickers in such a twist over a fellow GOP member who voiced his opinion.

Did anyone happen to notice that he won the primary in his state? And that his constituents seem so support him despite Heaven falling upon his head and the Devil rising up to strike him off the rolls, not to mention Limbaugh getting it wrong for once and at breakneck speed at that.

The only people who have a say in this are the people in his state who voted for him once and now have the chance to do it again. You want to make a difference? Move to Missouri and vote against him.

If you objectively look at what he said, who he is and has steadfastly been over his career, there is no surprise he said what he did. And what did he say? Basically he was against making law affecting everyone in our society for a small number, a very small number it seems, who might be inconvenienced. Yes, inconvenienced, not harmed.

The feminists and their butt-boy supporters and tools on the left can blow it out their a$$ when they object to this choice of words, but that is the way it is. I am so disappointed that so many American women have allowed themselves to be used as tools in a political movement. And Sarah, I had hoped you would ride into Tampa and come out with the nomination... but you just couldn't get away from your Tampon, could you.

I doubt Christ would have been so foolish as to let one’s enemy choose one’s representative. That’s the issue here. Quit being foolish and acting like Akin is the only pro life candidate in Missouri. He’s not. He’s just the worst of them, a stupid career politician.
