Who are we supposed to be fighting? Nobody did anything to Todd Akin. He said something stupid that the left is going to exploit in national and local Missouri elections. There’s nothing to fight other than bad press. Instead of focusing on a national political campaign we’re supposed to spend money treating self inflected wounds, just because he’s one of ours? I don’t care about Todd Akin’s political career in the abstract. I care about a conservative actually winning that seat.
Yes. There is no going back, although there’s a small intense minority here that seem to be trying, throwing out “cowards”, “bed-wetters” and other such terms, not realizing that they are an extreme minority on FR, meaning that nobody really agrees with them, but I do give them credit for trying to defend the indefensible.
What Akin said can’t be retracted or apologized for, he needs to do the honorable thing and step down, let someone else have a shot at winning this seat.

This is selfish...this guarantees this seat goes to the Dems and could jeopardize the entire national race... Even if he could somehow win do we want “legitimate rape” to be part of our branding for a the long term - not just for the GOP - but for the pro-life movement in general?
What are the laws in Missouri? Can an “independent” still file to make a run the party faithful can get behind as an alternative?
How can you defend a guy that can’t even defend himself? he went on that hardcore angry liberal Sean Hannity’s radio show and still couldn’t explain himself, stumbling and mumbling through a half-arsed explanation.
It’s wise to pick and choose your fights, the GOP needs to fight the Democrats on the economy, on Medicare and several other issues, but deciding to fight them on rape and the “legitimate” definition of it is not a winner, or has it ever been.
The best thing they can do is cut bait and walk away, have this guy dropout and speak no more of his insanity.
It was not “politically incorrect” - it was outrageous and nonsensical. This is not defensible and the Dems can use it not only to define the campaign in Missouri, but nationwide. He threw himself under the bus. No one forced him to say - the words are not being twisted. He may regret having said it, and that may be sincere, but it doesn’t change the irreversible political consequences of what has happened.
Fighting for what? He said what he said. This is not a smear, it wasn’t taken out of context - it is reality.
Well, I did not hear that. If he’s a dud, that begs the question of how come Mizzou elected him multiple times to the House and then placed him on the ticket for Senate?
And I am NOT defending the guy himself; nor his stupidity. I am looking for some sort of semblance of solidarity among conservatives.
