Akin Says He Has No Plans to Quit Missouri Senate Race
ABC News ^ | August 20, 2012 | Chris Good

Posted on 08/20/2012 12:24:53 PM PDT by Blackyce

Akin said he has no plans to withdraw.

“I don’t know that I’m the only person in public office who’s suffered from foot-in-mouth disease here, and this was a very, very serious error. On the other hand, there are so many good people in Missouri who nominated me, and they understood my heart,” Akin said.
...

Akin said no Republicans have called him and asked him to withdraw from the race.

“No one has called me and said, ‘Todd, I think you should drop out,’” Akin said. “No one has said that. But I gather people are saying that in the media, but they didn’t specifically call me and tell me that.”

Funny, Drudge currently has a story up that he just announced he’s dropping out? Which story is more recent?

What he meant was that fewer than one-tenth of one percent of abortions are the result of rape, but that’s not what he said.

This is exactly why Claire McCaskill ran “anti-Akin” ads in the Republican primary dog-whistling Democrats to cross over and vote for him.

Unfortunately for Claire he blew up sooner and more thoroughly than she had planned.

Akin will be gone and Brunner will be in his place by next weekend.

Hope those supporters have deep pockets because he’s on his own.

If he'd only had the foresight to run as a dem, no one would have taken notice.

Don’t go away mad Akin, just go away. Your political career is over and it was of your own doing. Now scram!

It would be good to understand Missouri Politics before imposing a theory on this one.

Akin wasn’t supposed to win. Akin wasn’t supposed to win by a large margin. John Brunner wasn’t supposed to be in the race and screw it up for Sarah Steelman who actually came in third.

Me, I’m just going to eat my popcorn and see what happens. I do know that the reaction in Missouri isn’t the same one felt in the beltway.

Sarah Steelman polled well above McCaskill in the primaries. Sarah palin endorsed Steelman. She lets us change the narrative back to the economy. Somebody make this guy go away.

The more this guy talks, the more damage he does, he needs to stop at this point. His “explanation” with Huckabee was utterly painful.

“Well uh...by legitimate I meant uh, forceable rape and not uh...other types of rape.”

He just keeps digging the hole bigger and bigger.

Romney should call Akin direct tell him to quit today.

The longer this drags on the worse it gets.

It isn’t very effective to apologize for being stupid. His comments give legitimacy to the war on women theme the democrats are running with. It will cost republicans close races all across the country. There will be more abortions because there will be more democrats elected. He needs to get out now. If he quits today or tomorrow the story dies. If he stays in, the republicans will get tarred with his stupidity every day until the election.
