Breaking- If Akin Remains In, NRSC Will Spend Nothing on MO Senate Race
The Corner at NRO ^ | August 20, 2012 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 08/20/2012 11:37:35 AM PDT by SE Mom

An NRSC source just confirmed to me what various outlets have been reporting: if Todd Akin remains the senate candidate, NRSC will invest no financial resources into the Missouri senate race. Previously, NRSC had planned to spend $5 million.

And Crossroads has already taken some TV ads off the air, reports Politico.

If Akin does remain in the race, he’s going to be relying, it appears, virtually exclusively on whatever his campaign raises, without any financial help from outside groups.

This should have been an easy state for the GOP to pick up one of the needed 4 Senate seas. If Akin does not resign and allow the next Pub in the primary run, Claire wins the state again. This is so short sighted and silly. But, then the GOP has in my lifetime of 73 yrs. been known as the Stupid Party.

Yes, Republicans are wussies. From reading this thread, so are many FREEPERS.

You are certainly right. It appears they are much more worried over appearances than Democrats are.

I just love how Republicans are falling all over themselves to pour gasoline on this. They, and some FReepers, are eager to look like they are reasonable, as if the corrupt MSM might now like them.

I want to win this seat just as much as the next person, but no one had better let any facts stand in the way!

The truth is there have been any number of reports of women who have claimed “rape” when they in fact had buyer's remorse from the previous night or discovered they might be pregnant. Additionally, ask any credible infertility clinic in this county. Is it easier to get pregnant under a highly fearful stressful situation or when one is relaxed, such as in the context of a loving marriage.

Gee, that doesn't sound too unreasonable. Yet, people are so craven to make a political win that they appear eager to forgo truth and honesty and just summarily political execute someone.

Sheesh.

“This is the same NRSC that endorsed Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio.

In other words, they’re the reason I quit giving to the Republican party and now only give to individual candidates.”

I hear you, and I also started giving exclusively to individual candidates due to reprehensible conduct on the part of the NRSC and the RNC.

But if the NRSC won’t spend a dime on the MO Senate race, McCaskill will be reelected. Akin can’t raise enough money on his own, particularly now that he will be eschewed by nearly all national conservative groups.

Akin’s a good man, and would have made a fine senator, but he cannot win, not after what he said. This is exactly how Fay Boozman lost a 1998 U.S. Senate race in Arkansas that was his to lose. He should drop out for the good of the nation, and find another way to contribute to the conservative movement.

Point taken. But still, my stop watch is running now, I say Akin’s out before my hour says ‘24’.

Count on it. And frankly, I’m enjoying how fast our side can move en masse, unlike the Dems and the Weiner incident.

Biden says things equally dumb twice daily.

But he gets a pass because he’s a tard. And this is 'Tard Akins.

I feel the same way about the man setting the pro life movement back. Apparently there are some studies that back up the man’s statements but it is a stupid fight to have right now. The dems would just put up thir own studies and off we are to the war on women meme race again. His statement about ‘legitimate’ tape was also bizarre....lol. Akin is a disaster.

I believe Akin should go. My reasoning is as follows:

Many people in this country feel that there isn't a dimes worth of difference between the two parties (Republicans and Democrats).

We are currently engaged in a very pivotal election cycle that will determine the future course of this nation. The Tea Party Republicans are poised to build on their 2010 victories by increasing their hold on the House and taking control of the Senate. It is now looking more likely that Obama will be removed from the White House as well.

Here is a chance where the Republican party can really show the American people that yes, there is a difference between the Republicans and the Democrats.

While the Democrats are content to have a horse's ass as our vice-president and rush to defend every Democrat that gets caught up in corruption or scandal, the Republicans are not afraid to clean up their own house and raise the standards that our lawmakers must live by.

Removing (or forcing) Akin from the senate race is NOT a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. The Republicans already have substitute candidates ready to go. We can afford to set our standards high.

Let the Democrats be saddled with idiots like Joe Biden. It will be quite a contrast for the Republicans to replace their own "Joe Bidens" and show the nation that they are serious about taking back this country and moving it in the right direction.

We don't need to be defending this guy's stupid remarks for the next 10 weeks. We don't need to "neutralize" the Biden issue by rallying behind Akin. Let's not have this be a distraction. Replace Akin and move on with the serious business we have before us.

Plus, we really need this senate seat and cannot afford to muck it up.

For me this is about defeating Obamacare. We need that Senate seat, if not Obamacare stands. For me this isn’t about Akin, this is about controlling the Senate, and we had it won, we freakin had it! When liberals say something idiotic the media protects them, says that people took it out of context. Liberals will always have the media, we don’t have that luxury, that’s just the way that it is. We have one chance to take back the Senate and we have to do it now

Well, if he stays in, he’d have to fight his own party without any sort of funding.....I think he needs to admit that this rodeo has ended and go on and find some other adventure elsewhere.

The only thing worse than sheer stupidity is the fools defending sheer stupidity. The majority here are calling this guy an idiot, the minority are the Kool-Aid drinkers.

Not wussies - COWARDS!

See my post #44

Yes, I understand no one has much stomach to defend yet another from the media and Liberals who will (with the aid and comfort of Republicans and FReepers) ultimately be forced from his position, but they are misguided.

And yet Joe Biden gets a free pass for telling a Black audience, in a faux sothern drawl, that Republicans will put them in chains!

Like using the N-word, apparently somethings are just so hiddeous that they dare never be mentioned! — unless you’re a Liberal.

This. The reason these organizations are moving so swiftly to denounce this guy is because politically he’s dead in the water. If he remains, McCaskill get’s re-elected....guaranteed.

The GOP’s best chance to pick up the seat is for Akin to go “spend some time with his family” and put Brunner or Steelman in there, beat out McCaskill, take the W, take the Senate and repeal Obamacare next year.

“What Akin said is true. If a woman is actually raped, the female body is less likely to conceive.”

Even if what you say is true (and certainly there are a lot of doctors out there who disagree with the theory), that is not what Akin said: there’s a difference between rape victims being “less likely to conceive” (what you said) and saying that “the body shuts down” making pregnancy “rare.” And that’s before we even get to his use of the phrase “legitimate rape” when he meant to say “forcible rape.”

I am a 100% pro-lifer, and I can explain my position in a way that a child could understand, without having to resort to quasi-scientific theories of the likelihood of conception during a rape:

“An unborn child is an innocent human being, and has the same right to life of any innocent human being, irrespective of how he was conceived. I support the death penalty for rapists (and hope that SCOTUS overrules its ahistorical jurisprudence limiting the use of capital punishment to murder), but I do not support the death penalty for the innocent child.

Our Constitution sets limits on the use of “Corruption of Blood,” since the Framers found it illegitimate to punish a child for the sins of his father. When the state permits the child who is a product of rape to be killed, the state is permitting the child to be killed as punishment for his father’s crime. An unborn child is no less human just because his father was a rapist.”

Had Akin stated the above, he would have been criticized by liberals but would still be on his way to beating McCaskill in November. Instead, he made an outrageous claim that was completely unnecessary, and will result in him losing in November if he stays on the ballot. As much as it pains me to say it, I think that he should step down and let another conservative Republican run.

He’s gone... at least if he has a brain. If he isn’t he just becomes a lightning rod and a distraction for the presidential campaign. I can’t imagin this guy if he’s got a few brain cells firing, won’t be withdrawing within a day or two.
