“Legitimate rape” became a Twitter trending topic in the U.S. this afternoon after liberal blog Talking Points Memo posted a video of Rep. Todd Akin claiming that victims of “legitimate rape” are unlikely to become pregnant.

Who would have thunk McCaskill (down by 20 in every poll) would have this thing wrapped up by August.

The dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Painful is an understatement. So the good people of Missouri chose this idiot over Steelman?

GOP chances of winning control of the Senate appear to have been dashed by this idiot.

When I was in Catholic school, 7th or 8th grade, in the 1970s, I was told that pregnancies don’t usually result from rape because the woman will miscarry because of the stress. It took a few more years for me to figure out that this was wishful thinking, and would not be a good argument against abortion in cases of rape.

I wonder if this candidate was fed the same line when he was younger, and never re-examined it.

Miscarriage and abortions are much much higher with rape. Pregnancy though, still happens if the girl had ovulated - its just less likely to go to term.

Rape of males (as with Sandusky or Dahmer) seldom results in pregnancy.

Rape of premenarche girls seldom results in pregnancy.

Rape of post menopausal females seldom results in pregnancy.

Anal rape seldom results in pregnancy.

Oral rape seldom results in pregnancy.

Women with hysterectomies or full tubal ligations don't tend to get pregnant from rape.

If you compile the statistics lumping all victims of rape together rather than strictly healthy women of child bearing age experiencing penile vaginal rape...then yes, you can artificially create the perception that rape is less likely to produce a pregnancy than other intercourse.

It will be a lie, of course, but you can interject it and hope nobody calls you on it.

I can find a doctor who will tell you that whatever herbal concoction I want them to endorse causes men to grow bigger genitals and women to grow larger busts. If you don't look at the underlying methodology well...

Charles Jaco is a leftwing asswipe...I can tell you that. He hates conservatives almost as much as Ed Schultz. He is no friend of Constitutionalists....so keep that in mind....he and the rest of the pro-Obamugabe media will twist and extrapolate anything a McCaskill opponent will say to make them look bad.

Akin did seem to reference what doctors told him...maybe Jaco ought to check with some doctors to see whether what Akin said was accurate at all.

And maybe we ought to quit listening to the jerkoffs in the liberal media.

Yep. McCaksill was actually pulling for him. Who knew this was out there (or is this recent?).

Anyone who says this is “nothing” is not living in reality. This has the potential to take down more than him with the way Dems demagogue.

How long and how often did we attack Whoopi on here for her “rape rape” comment? Can’t justify the same thing in one of our own. Just stupid. Hope there’s time for recovery.

Real reason Akin is being attacked:
97.24 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union!

Come on, people...wake up and smell what the liberals are cooking....this is all going to be done to every Republican on the ballot...words twisted to sound worse than the actual quote, out of context, etc...all to keep the liberals in power and to keep the Senate from turning to a point where we can overturn Obamacare.

Quit falling for the media spin, dammit!!

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape) is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in a clip posted to YouTube by the Democratic super PAC American Bridge. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Knowing WHEN to stop talking is important in politics. Instead of “running off at the mouth” he might best only have made his first comment - what doctors say about the incidence of pregnancy resulting from rape - and left it at that. That might have prevented any great excitement about his comment.

Note to GOP, when Sarah Palin endorses someone, put up your listening ears and FOLLOW HER LEAD. She endorsed Steelman, there was a reason why McCaskill wanted this guy to be the nominee so badly, should have been a warning sign

I don’t care what his party is, he’s too stupid to have any political position with the possible exception of VP in a Democrat Administration.

It doesn’t matter what Charles Jaco says or is. Aiken said it. It’s on video. His words.

Aiken: “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Seldom? Shouldn't you be using never in most of your statements?

You've got a lot of vagaries in your comment.

Well, there goes MO. Those who find Obama acceptable over Romney and believe there will be 67 votes to convict in an impeachment trial may have just lost one. Yeah, as if the GOP would get 67 Senators.

“Legitimate rape” is an oxymoron, like something Joe Biden would say.

And if I am not mistaken, Akin was the Tea Party candidate. It says something that Palin took a look at the guy and endorsed Steelman.

Golly!

Two cases per 1000 individual incidences of intercourse. 1 in 500.

Now, if you are not an idiot (the doctor here clearly is) then you put that together with 1000 individual incidences of intercourse which are not rape to get a statistic which actually would mean something. This would be called comparing the data to a control group.

You can’t do that, however, if you have manipulating the statistics as a goal.
