Good question, so many of the defenders of Trayvon Martin say YES, that's street law.

NO! The police dispatcher’s SUGGESTION is merely that. Zimmerman had absolutely no legal obligation to follow the dispatcher’s suggestion.

Dispatchers are not deputized law enforcers, and that’s likely to come up in the trial when it gets under way.

Actually, that was my first question. If I were walking down the street at night and a man was stalking me, I’d feel within my rights to defend myself.

And the cops did tell Z. to back off.

IMHO, that’s where he messed up.
