Disarming America: The former vice president and defense secretary journeys to Capitol Hill to warn that looming mandated defense cuts will only imperil our ability to defend ourselves and our interests.
If there's a common thread that runs through President Obama's policies, it's that they all seem to have the purpose of strengthening government power at home and/or weakening American power abroad. To President Obama, impending massive defense cuts merely means we can beat our swords into Chevy Volts.
We have documented as part of our "Obama Record" series and before how the president has been dismantling America's defense brick by brick, from appeasing the Russians on missile defense to slashing our nuclear arsenal to a point it may soon be lower than China's.
Dick Cheney headed up to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to urge Republican leaders to move to block defense cuts mandated by the congressional "super committee" failure to reach agreement on trimming anything else. An additional $500 million in mandated cuts will take effect beginning in January on top of $487 billion in cuts previously budgeted by the Obama administration.
Cheney said defense spending is "not a spigot you can turn on and turn off, that you need to keep money flowing in a predictable way so you can plan for the next war," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., reported after Cheney spoke at the weekly luncheon of Senate Republicans.
Cheney, who was President George H.W. Bush's defense secretary from 1989 to 1993, told lawmakers that "what we were able to achieve in the first Gulf War" that expelled Iraqi troops from Kuwait "was the result of planning and spending" during the 1980s, according to Graham.

There’s an old Roman saying that goes something like....”To attain peace, prepare for war.” Obama needs to understand this but I doubt he ever will.
“Si vis pacem, para bellum”
“If you wish for peace, prepare for war”
The fact that this passed in the first place makes me seriously doubt congress is serious about maintaining our national defense.
I’ve been convinced for a long time that the politicians of both parties in Washington are going to get most of us killed...
That’s it. Thank you. I wish our government would listen to the ancients.
That is why Obama needs to be un-elected no matter what, this time around.
We can fight about what comes next, next.
First we un-elect Obama.
Appeasement ping
Here's another one: "No long war ever profited any country: 100 victories in 100 battles is simply ridiculous."
Sun Tzu, The Art of War
We have been fighting radical islam for more than a decade now, with no end in sight. We let chances for an early and decisive victory slip away in favor of nation-building.
I know I'll catch flak for this, but some of the blame for that falls on Cheney.
It’s great to learn why things happened. Today, it’s time to change how we do things and learn from the past. Hopefully, we won’t make the mistake of electing another marxist.
