How to Read Russian Ammo Cans

Great information! When I was an 18B I used to teach this information to my ODA. There are third world soldiers walking around with magazines full of bad ammo because they loaded a bad lot number. You don’t want that to happen to you so it’s important to be able to decipher the markings on foreign ammunition boxes and cans. I’ll root through my reference material in the meantime and see if I can find the translations for Chinese and Arabic as well. Thanks the pointer Soldier Systems.

So how does that tell you it’s a “bad lot”? And what exactly does that mean?

I guess the date and caliber. They use the borrowed english word for sniper (spelled in cyrillic) instead of меткий стрелок, that's why he's saying we won the cold war

I use and love this stuff.
You can’t find ammo cheaper, but it is corrosive.

The truly ironic thing is that this ammo would have been shot at us if the Cold War went hot. Now we are buying the ammo we would have been killed with for our use.

Yes, we won the Cold War alright, for now anyway but it would be a mistake to think Russia is our friend, but I find this ammo surplus on the free market ironic. Not complaining though.

BTW, these particular rounds rumored to make 1,04 MOA with pre-1970 SVD or recent civilian Tigr rifle.

Pretty impressive for a stamped piece+East Bloc ammo.
