Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades issued a blistering statement in response.
"President Obama's campaign hit a new low today when one of its senior advisers made a reckless and unsubstantiated charge to reporters about Mitt Romney that was so over the top that it calls into question the integrity of their entire campaign," Rhoades said. "President Obama ought to apologize for the out-of-control behavior of his staff, which demeans the office he holds. Campaigns are supposed to be hard fought, but statements like those made by Stephanie Cutter belittle the process and the candidate on whose behalf she works."

Romney is finally fighting back.
I want to believe Mitt on this, but it was dumb not to get that information out before the Obamanites found it. He should have realized that it would give them a perfect foil to use against accusations of Obama’s dishonesty.
A lot of people are going to read this, and the Liberal versions of the story, shrug and say to themselves, “OK, Obama lied, but so did Mitt. All politicians lie. Big deal.”
On this exchange, I have to give the advantage to Obama.
Cutter, Obama's deputy campaign manager, said Romney may have committed a felony if he misrepresented his role at Bain on the SEC documents. And if he was running Bain after 1999, Cutter said, Romney hasn't been truthful with the public. "If that's the case, if he was lying to the American people, then that's a real character and trust issue," she said. But Romney's campaign issued a statement Thursday from Bain that said Romney "left Bain Capital in February 1999 to run the Olympics and has had absolutely no involvement with the management or investment activities of the firm or with any of its portfolio companies since the day of his departure. Due to the sudden nature of Mr. Romney's departure, he remained the sole stockholder for a time while formal ownership was being documented and transferred to the group of partners who took over management of the firm in 1999. Accordingly, Mr. Romney was reported in various capacities on SEC filings during this period." J.W. Verrett, an attorney and economics scholar at George Washington University's Mercatus Center, also told Fox News that the original Globe report appeared to "be confused" about the SEC filings. He noted they refer to "Bain Capital VI," which he described as an investment separate from Bain Capital itself. "Saying that Governor Romney was the CEO of Bain Capital VI is like saying that I am the CEO of my retirement account ... it's a silly bit of legalese and it doesn't also mean I am CEO of all the companies in which I invest," he said in an email. Obama team is stretching and exaggerating the record of a pretty good man. Is Romney too moderate for me? Yes Is he a decent and frankly good human being? It seems like it. Is Obama? HECK NO. ABO

Hey cult bishop Romney, did Newt and his supporters get an apology from you how YOU behaved during the campaign - you were lower than scum with your incessant LIES! Get liars to vote for you.
I agree, but there is enough wiggle room to convince the peons that he either lied or hid something. Yes, he left to run the Olympics and only an idiot would think that he could to that and run Bain as well, but his name was still on the paper, and that’s all they have to say.
In the battle for voter perceptions, targeting the uninformed proletariat, this comes out (marginally) to Obama’s advantage because it blunts Mitts charges of dishonesty.
I may be wrong, but that’s the brutal calculus as I see it.
Waahhh Waaahhh Mitt beat up my guy........
He beat NO ONE but TRUTH! Evil hates truth. This is NOT about some guy but about AMERICA. A concept over the head of mittbots - they are mimicking the liberals in ‘08.

I think that was a nice counterpunch and is going to leave a mark.

Romney may be fighting back, but he is still playing defense.
I have previously stated I could not vote for Romney. If there were any other real choice, I would absolutely stand by that. Your sentiment expresses my current thoughts quite well.
I do not like Romney. I do not trust him.
But I do not think the country can stand another term of the Obamanation.
But he did nothing wrong nor illegal. When you've conducted yourself honestly, it isn't obvious at all that someone else will eventually accuse you of dishonesty for the honest action. Why would it be?
It's as if he should have a defense for everything he's ever done because the Obama campaign will twist and falsify everything he's ever done. He can't, nor should he be expected to.
His. Name. Is. On. The. Papers.
Regardless of whether he did any work at that time, his name is there. As long as the Obamanites have that ONE FACT, they can keep the waters muddied.
It’s about perceptions. Since they lie very well, and since there are more than enough idiots out there that will believe the lies, it does not work out in our favor.
I hope I’m wrong, but that’s how I see this playing out.
Oh, you may very well be right about how it plays out. I was just doubting Romney's (or anyone's for that matter) ability to foresee accusations of wrong-doing where none exists.
I wonder if Sarah has called anyone on Romney’s staff to see if they are having fun yet trying to dispel all these statements. If the upcoming election weren’t so critical I would be tempted to say something like “Turn about is fair play”.
