We have scuppers? Sounds like something that should be surgically excised since they obviously don’t do much and will only give us trouble later anyway.

We used to have scuppers. Remember that we spent quite a bit of time floating in water, having been afloat in Loch Ness, the Norwegian Sea, off the coast of Kauai, and in the Pacific Ocean in and near Eniwetok Atoll.

Scuppers were appropriate at that time, but the only time they were mentioned was when we were preparing to launch for Mars, and they were all carefully sealed and welded shut.

"We have scuppers?"

First paragraph: Link

Psychologically, there is an echo ringing in our heads of the slamming of doors. For the twelfth time, the scan is run to determine that all doors, windows, ports, and cargo hatches, vents, drains, scuppers, pitots, and openings of any sort are tightly sealed.
