Poll: More blame Bush than Obama (for the country’s ongoing economic problem)

Americans continue to place more blame for the country’s ongoing economic problems on former President George W. Bush than on President Barack Obama, a new survey shows.

Though Bush has been out of office for nearly three and a half years, 68 percent blame him a "great deal" or "moderate amount" for the nation's economic woes, according to a Gallup poll released Thursday. Meanwhile, 52 percent of Americans believe the same about Obama. There exists a partisan divide on who blames who for the current economic distress, but Republicans are more willing to blame Bush than Democrats are willing to blame Barack Obama.

In fact, 49 percent of Republicans said Bush was greatly or moderately responsible for America’s economic woes, compared to 51 percent who said he wasn’t. On the other hand, 19 percent of Democrats blame Obama for the current distress, while 81 percent say he is “not much” or “not at all” responsible.

Obama’s share of the blame has been relatively steady over the past three years: since 2010, between 48 percent and 53 percent of Americans have blamed him for the economic problems facing the United States.

Bush isn’t blameless, especially given his reluctance to exercise the veto, but the budget (and with it the economy) began to go to hell once the Democrats took Congress in 2006, (with their spending policies starting to manifest themselves a year later), and totally went to pieces with Obama’s election and Porkulus.

I’d guess 90% of the population is hopeless when it comes to understanding the budget process in this country, and I expect that’s by design. Jerkwad Clinton can smugly claim to have passed “the last four balanced budgets this country’s seen” - all while acquiescing to Newt Gingrich’s budgets.

And Obama can claim that he’s stuck with spending “baked into the budget by Bush”, when what he’s really got is spending baked into the budget starting with that Democrat congress from 2006, and maintained in place by continuing resolution due to the fact that the Reid Senate hasn’t even thought about a budget in almost three years.

This shows the power the media STILL has better than anything else. The economic collapse of 2008 was CAUSED by Democrats more than anything else yet the media successfully blamed, and continue to blame, Bush. Of course the real culprits in Congress have helped the media every step of the way.

whoopee, lets have a national referendum on who to BLAME!
That will take up our time and attention!
That will solve...... oh wait

No, let’s have a national vote on who is likely to fix the economy, or at least do less harm.

ABO

Notice how the uS Congressional leaders from 2006, Pelosi and Reid, Frank, Dodd, and others who ran the committees and ran the economy into the hole...completely skip responsibility?

The Republicans need to put the real unemployment stats out there. It was at 5.4% through most of his two terms. Didn’t spike until the rats took over the House and the housing market collapsed at the very end of his second term.

hat is because when Obama blames Bush (24/7) we all cry out - “stop whining,” instead of presenting the facts proving “it ain’t so.” As an example re the housing debacle, his original idea was to buy out the toxic assets and auction them al la the credit union problems a few years ago.

Poll question: The bad economy and all our other problems are Bush’s fault, aren’t they?

“This contractor spends the next few months talking with me, planning and is being a really nice guy, but the roof is still not fixed.”

That’s a good analogy but you forgot that he spent your down payment on lunch for his crew then released a million termites onto your roof.

More blame Bush... Why?

Because ‘we’ have never boldly responded with the truth. The last two years Bush was in office, Obama and the democrats controlled both houses. The fiscal woes were their’s just as much or more than Bush’s responsibility.

Now DNC ads are doing the same thing to Romney regarding his record in MA. He had to work with Democratic houses as well.

When baraq was running for president, he proclaimed that he would fix everything. Their media kinda forgot about that.
And while Mr. Bush was in office, he was portrayed as a bumbling fool that couldn’t accomplish anything.
NOW he is the evil that is responsible for the ecomony 3 years down the road?

The party’s media is just trying to cover up barrys’ utter incompetance. Might work on a few folks, but the proof in out there.

The truth is that, people WOULD blame Obama, but they also do NOT want to be accused with the “r” word.

IMHO, they'll blame Bowbama come November...in the privacy of the voting booth! And, then lie to the exit pollsters...

I’d like to see the question or questions asked.

I participated in a Gallup poll last night and noticed they had some two-part questions, or basically asking the same or similar question at the beginning of the survey, then asking it worded differently at the end.

Also, many of the questions I was asked were a push-poll type. So they could have asked two different questions, one being a push question for Bush and the other regarding obama presented in some other form.

Why?

Because the so many Americans are pathetic dim bulbs, without the ability to apply critical thought to the latest episode of The Kardashians, much less the underlying causes of the current economic malaise.

And they haven’t the faintest idea that democrats Frank and Dodd plus the Black Caucus caused the Fannie Mae Melt Down

And of course Kick Me Again Bush and the GOP did nothing to place the blame where it belonged

Strange that no one blames the true culprits, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, the Democrat-dominated Congress and the corrupt media.

That's half the problem right there. The GOP should be out there setting the record straight on President Bush's jobs record. I recall during W's years there were so many jobs out there that they were hiring retirees to fill them.

Afterall, one must identify the “root causes” of under-performance of minorities in the executive office, and make appropriate accommodations to make up for their historic impediments to success and also racial inequality so that they can achieve equity in outcome.

Survey Methods
Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June 7-10, 2012, with a random sample of 1,004 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

Who are these people that have nothing better to do?
