Krauthammer: Let’s face it, Bill Clinton’s a double agent for the GOP

Via the Daily Caller, is he right? Before you say no, be advised that it sounds like Team Hopenchange is also starting to wonder:

A day earlier, Bill Clinton suggested that Congress should temporarily extend the tax cuts, but later in the evening a spokesman for the former president walked back his comments.

Mr. Clinton “doesn’t believe the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans should be extended again,” a spokesman said. Mr. Clinton’s comments on tax policy, in an interview on CNBC, left the Obama re-election campaign “upset,” and the campaign quickly asked Mr. Clinton to “correct” his remarks, a person familiar with events said.

How many times has he kneecapped The One in the past week? First he said that Romney had a "sterling" business record and was qualified to be president --- watch Krauthammer for more on that --- then he politely noted at a fundraiser with O that he's the only president in recent times to balance the budget, then he came out yesterday and endorsed a temporary extension of the Bush tax cuts. I thought that would end up helping O long-term but his campaign evidently doesn’t agree. And then there’s this. Show of hands: How many people think Bill Clinton, the consummate political animal, had no idea that praising Romney for his business career might prove unhelpful to Obama’s messaging?

I didn’t have any idea, when I was giving that answer, that I was wading into some controversy in the campaign, because I haven’t seen the ads, and I’m not following it, and I’m not really part of it. But you’d have to know about a specific [private equity] case to know whether it was a good or a bad thing. But there are a lot of good people in that business doing good things. That’s the point I was making.

There’s no one in American political life who’s more fun to write about than Clinton for the simple reason that it’s impossible to give him the benefit of the doubt on anything. He’s famously highly intelligent, famously devious, and, per his mastery of “triangulation,” famously willing to cross other Democrats to protect his own interests. When in doubt, you always, always assume he’s working an angle. What’s his angle here? Is it as simple as protecting his own legacy as the only Democrat in modern times to be reelected? Or, as I think many righties believe, are we seeing “Operation: Elect Hillary” in effect? If the latter, how would an Obama loss advance Hillary’s chances in 2016? Granted, it’s unusual for Americans to grant one party 12 years in the White House, but if Romney wins in November and the economy comes roaring back, it’ll be next to impossible to defeat him as an incumbent in four years. What’s Slick’s game? Remember, no theory is too nefarious.

Hey Charles, are you telling us that Clinton KNEW that his presence in Wisconsin (endorsing Scott Walker's opponent) will result in CERTAIN DEFEAT for the Democrats, and that is exactly why he did it?

I'm confused....

Bubba is in it for himself, and for Hillary. In that order.

Indeed. Bubba knows 4 more years of Obama will doom the RAT party forever (or at least a generation).

Re: Bubba....I think it's "Scre* all of you time".

Now would be a PERFECT time for Hillary to resign.

Word’s out on FOX shows that Bill has confided behind the scene that he doesn’t want to see Obama re-elected. He hasn’t said it’s for Hillary (but it probably is) but it’s to save the country.

I used to think he was doing it for Hillary, but I do not think so now. The best way for Hill to run in ‘16 would be for Obama to finish his second term then. No...I think he is doing this because he thinks Romney will win and he wants to work with Romney then.

I think it is quite simple. Clinton doesn’t want Obama to win re-election, because he still has hopes that Hillary will take him back to the White House. If Obama has four more years to pillage and destroy our country, Clinton knows HIllary will have no chance in hell of following him. In order for Hillary to have half a chance in ‘16, Obama needs to go down in flames in November. Then the Clintons can rush in, more in sorrow than in anger, and rescue the Democratic Party.

Agree with your post.

I also think Clinton has been p!ssed because the Chicago mob had evidence on Arkancides and blackmailed Hillary - mutually assured destruction.

She couldn’t use the Clinton’s vaunted private detective operation to out Baraq’s dubious history.

Where lies Hillary’s best shot at a shot at the presidency?

Is there some reason a Romney win this time would make a Hillary run and win more likely in 2016? 2016 is clearly her last shot.

Biden is already 70, but I don’t think being 74 would deter him from claiming the heir-apparent mantle. I also don’t think that will be the Dem candidate for VP and will not be replaced.

A Romney win, however, will have no heir-apparent in 2016, so Hillary would be on equal footing with anyone.

I don’t see concerns for Chelsea being a political issue or Chelsea being a player at all.

“What’s Slick’s game? Remember, no theory is too nefarious.”

Here is an idea. Maybe Clinton sees what we see. That Obama is an amateur in over his head who is literally ruining the nation?

Maybe Clinton IS patriotic a bit and doesn’t want to see the nation become a Somalia?

Maybe he is sick of seeing Obungo destroy the Democrat party?

It’s quite possible that a severe global depression is less than 12 months away, and whomever is President next term will be not come off looking too well even if they do everything right. It would be easier for Hillary to run against a Romney in 2016 than to follow Obama.

Possible. I disagree with Clinton on just about every issue, but I don’t think he is “evil” like the current fog that has taken over this nation.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Obama has given us a great gift. He’s finally torn the blinders off many that vote Democrat, who equated it with the party of their parents “for the people”.

Obama is going to be the last hi-profile Dem for a while to run while pretending he is pro-America, pro-tradition, etc. I remember OReilly in 2008 swearing that Obama was pro traditional marriage because “he said so”. No More.

People are, for the first time, being forced to realize that today’s Dems are really rabid statist socialists who want to tear down every traditional American institution. Even the blacks are starting to see. It’s painful, and it is starting slowly, but people who have been loyal Dems are seeing their party has LEFT THEM.

As Rush says, the Dems would NEVER win if the MSM didn’t abet them in hiding everything they really stood for. Clinton, ever a brilliant politician, knows this. He sees Obama as recklessly squandering what he worked hard for.

Not to mention I’m convinced he just hates his guts, for exposing him and Hillary to the derision of the MSM usually reserved for Republicans.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I doubt that. I suspect that the best way for her to have a chance in ‘16 would be fore Romney to be elected and have no success at restarting the economy. Not saying that he wouldn’t be successful but if he wasn’t the door would be open for another rat president. Actually I think all the hoopla about Hillary is way over the top. The women of America could have put her in office in 2008 but chose to support an unknown, unqualified, mixed race male instead. I see nothing to convince me that the women of America intend to ever put Hillary in the oval office. The majority of women DON’T want to see any woman in that office.
